Oleksa Hryshchenko (1883-1977) was a Ukrainian artist,
a prominent representative (репрезентетів) of the Paris
School of Painting, an art critic, and an avid traveler. He
became the inventor of his own style, which was called
"dynamocolor". This style became one of the avant-garde
movements of the early twentieth century. It was based
on a combination of the basic principles of cubism and
the basis of icon painting. Looking at the picture we see
the French city of Peyre-les-Chateaux ( пейре лес
шатос). Hryshchenko managed to combine colors that
seemed incompatible (інкомпетібл) with each other. We
see the sky covered with several shades of blue and gray.
We can see a similar color of the sky in winter, but the
painting is more likely to depict spring or summer.
Looking at the mountains, you get the feeling that they
are slightly covered with snow. The city itself very
accurately combines (екюратлі комбайнс) the bright
color of the roof tiles of the houses, and the pastel color
of the grass and the darker color of the trees. To the left
