The article is about the people who live inthe 'mountains / islands in India and Morocco. They live in different countries, but they have the same ?*language / problem - there isvery little sun / rain. In the Ladakh, they have a system of roads / pipes called stupas to collect water from 'fog / streams in the mountains. Water is necessary for life, but some places in the world h | don't have enough of it. Normally, the UK doesn't have water problems. It often has rain showers and big winter storms, so y there is plenty of water. But there are major cities in hotter countries where people don't have enough water. The city council didn't want to tum off all the water, but they wanted people to use less than before. lt was important that the reservoirs had more than 13% water in them. In fact, the city is | often hot and sunny. Between 2015 and 2017 there was a bad drought in Cape Town. This is why there wasn't enough water. At the same time the citys population was growing very fast. Life with less water When the reservoirs were nearly empty, the city tried to find a solution to help its population. A new rule said that people must use less than 50 litres of water each day — the daily average in California is about 300 litres. People saved water from baths and showers. Then they reused it for tne toilet. Also, car washes stopped and people didn't water their gardens. People had to pay a fine if they used too much water. In some areas of the city, people started getting water from mountain streams. Fortunately, in 2018 there was heavy rain and the situation improved, but we mustn't forget the water problem in Cape Town.
