Telling lies is part of life, and that is the truth. Most people lie about 4 times a day, which adds up to an average of 1,460 lies a year. The majority thinks that a lie occurs any time you intentionally try to mislead someone. So why is it that something we regard as innately destructive is such an embedded part of our lives? The present research clarifies the definition of lie and truth, declares the body language, which includes facial expressions, body posture, gestures, eye movement, touch and the use of space of liars, and focuses on different types of lies. Furthermore, it elaborates how lying effects the human brain, and which impact they have got on the development of children. The thesis displays that deception is not only a human trait, but also common among animals. Ultimately, it reveals different methods to expose lies, and points out the avail of them. These topics above are examined, exemplified and demonstrated by reviewing scientific studies, interviews and primary sources. In conclusion, lying is not only necessary, it’s actually virtuous. It is a complex ethical tangle, but it illustrates the fact that lies are not ipso facto bad. Studies have even shown that children who are good liars are more intelligent and have better memory skills. For all the bad press it gets, lying is one of the most fundamental parts of our social life. In other words, little white lies glue our day-to-day relationships together. So obviously, lying is sometimes okay, if it does only affect you personally and as long it does not harm others.
