Instructions for a probability distribution fitting assignment in a statistical analysis course. Students are required to conduct chi-squared tests to determine if interarrival times and service times could have come from specific distributions using given data sets. The assignment includes instructions for calculating percentages and x values for each cell, and allows students to complete the assignment by hand or in excel. A similar problem will be required on the exam. Submission in a pressboard prong binder is not necessary.

INDE 3370 Individual Homework # Due 20 SEPT 07 The objective of this assignment is to introduce you to theoretical probability distribution fitting. Download the files interarr.txt and service.txt from the web site. interarr.txt contains interarrival observations for batch arrivals. Service.txt contains service times for individual observations. Conduct one equiprobable chi-squared test to determine if the interarrival times could have come from an exponential distribution with a population mean that is the same as the sample mean. Conduct one equiprobable chi-squared test to determine if the service times could have come from a normal distribution with a population mean and standard deviation that is the same as the sample mean and standard deviation. Use alpha=0.05 for the critical values. This is an individual homework assignment. Show your work including what the percentages and x values are for each cell. You may do the assignment by hand or in Excel as long as you understand what you are doing. You will have to do a similar problem by hand on the exam next week. It is not necessary to submit this assignment in a pressboard prong binder.
