Write a memorable experience
I’ve had my fair share of exhilarating and unforgettable experiences, but the one
that really stands out must be the first time I participated in a debate
competition.
It all happened in September of last year.Out of the blue, my friend sent me an
application form for a debate contest to be launched in the following month. I
ran my eyes through the whole page without really registering the information,
since the big headline in bold, fancy font “DEBATE COMPETITION” already
put me off. Actually, I had a sharp critical mind but joining any kinds of
competitive events has never been in my bucket list. My friend, however, spent
days persuading me, insisting how the competition helped me boost my
confidence and enhance my CV.
The competition was held by my school for the students, so most of the
contestants were people I was already acquaintances with. We had three rounds
with three topics and we will be divided into 5 teams, then take turns arguing
with each other. I still remember I almost cried in the last round when I debated
with Trung Kien, an exceedingly smart member of my friend's team, since I did
not know how to answer the question Trung Kien asked. But before I started my
argument, my groupmates had whispered in my ears,"Accomplish your best, I
think you can do it."As a result, that encouraged me to perform well in the final
round.
I am so glad that I pulled through it all, though, because the performances were
really worth it. I believe I managed, in a very short span of time, to come up
with what were possibly the best performances in my capability.
