CHAPTER I

The Problem and Its Background 1.0 Introduction: The way education is delivered has transformed because of the advancement of technology. Digital platforms play an important role in helping people grasp the information they need. In the current educational environment, where technological integration is now becoming increasingly prevalent, providing innovative methods of teaching for enhancing the student's learning experience has come in handy in our community. As Amadora (2020) stated, "Let's help each other by embracing technology and digitalization to conquer the challenges faced by the field of education”. A digital platform, YouTube has received an enormous amount of attention. YouTube is an American video-sharing and social media platform owned by Google. It was founded on February 14, 2005 by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim, all of whom were former PayPal employees. This platform is a network that includes an array of educational videos, information and sundry content for people to explore. With these great platforms at hand, students who have difficulties understanding their lesson can use the educational videos to be browse on YouTube to ease their repetition in learning. Basic Calculus is a specialized subject in Grade 11 STEM in Mary Josette Academy, unfolding a strong basic calculus solving skills is important for students who is pursuing science, technology, engineering, and

basic calculus, especially when it comes to the topic of evaluating limits from a graph. There are many sources that can contribute to the difficulties of understanding concepts related to limits. In October 2019, 88% of Polish YouTube visitors watched videos to gain new skills or knowledge. Additionally, when seeking guidance on accomplishing tasks, three-quarters of respondents indicated a preference for consulting YouTube as their primary information source (Statista, 2019). Thus, YouTube's role as an educational platform can alter how people perceive knowledge and shape the future of education as technological advancements continue. This study is conducted to investigate why many students struggle to understand basic calculus, specifically focusing on the lesson, "Evaluating Limits From A Graph". Mathematics, specifically basic calculus, is challenging for many students because some have a slower learning pace, while others struggle to recognize and memorize solution patterns. Every student has different ways of learning; not all are fast learners and require meticulous teaching. For this reason, us researchers aim to help our fellow students by explaining how YouTube can assist them in recognizing and analyzing mathematical problem-solving more effectively. 1.1 Statement of the Problem:

In this study with regards to Basic Calculus, the students of senior high school in Grade 11 STEM in Mary Josette Academy truly be able to ascertain the difficulties on understanding and analyzing the particular topic about the evaluating limits from a graph. This defines that senior high school students, particularly grade 11 cannot be able to cope up easily on what has been teaching in front as there is no equal levels of educational perception between them. The study aims to answer the following questions:

  1. What influence does YouTube has to affect the basic calculus solving skills of Grade 11 STEM?
  2. What aspects does the application could make it a very suitable source as a tool for learning? 2.1 What could be the concern among students that lies within it?  Videos  Reels  Channels
  3. What are the students' perceptions towards using YouTube for learning basic calculus under its topic evaluating limits from a graph?  Clarity  Systematic

calculus solving skills which do not cover any other areas of mathematics or other subjects. 1.3 Significance of the Study: The significant point of this study is to convey the significance on how the students and the teachers will be able to adapt the use of a third-party application, YouTube, in particular, to assess and evaluate the unbounded ways of such methods in acquiring advanced knowledge. This study will have significant value to the following: Students. This study is meant to provide information to students, generally those who are in the Grade 11 STEM. This study is mainly conducted to lay out the benefits of the use of YouTube as a learning tool, providing an option to explore different teaching methods that will coordinate with their learning ability and to enhance their digital literacy. Teachers. The study will be beneficial to the teachers, particularly those who aim to provide their students with a more engaging experience in terms of educating and evaluating specific lessons through the usage of video learning. It is to elucidate the system of its teaching capacity and prioritize the needs of every student's interests. Administrators. This study will help the administrators by amending the methods of teaching through YouTube and being able to adapt to

new methods of learning that can aid students in being more engaged in learning. Parents. The study being conducted will be definitely an excellent help for the parents, in a way to minimize the expenses being needed for having online education as well as delivering a practical learning advancement tool that provides current utilization in knowledge basis for their children. Future Researchers. This research will provide information and fill the research gaps of the future researchers as the video learning, being the lead for uncomplicated educational assessment.
