An Analysis of Social Conflict in Three Short Stories by Jack London, Lecture notes of English Literature

This undergraduate paper explores the social conflicts and human versus natural conflicts in three short stories by jack london: south of slot, love of life, and to build of fire. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the conflicts and their impact on the main characters, with a focus on marx's conflict theory and comparative literature. The study aims to understand how conflict arises in the main character and reveals the unique characteristics of these stories and london's works in general.

The research entitled "An Analysis of Conflicts in Three Selected Short Stories of Jack
London's", which focuses on the analysis of elements of social conflict and human versus
natural conflict, which is contained in the three short stories selected. written by Jack
London, namely: South of Slot, Love of Life, and To Build of Fire. and appears as a form of
rejection of the previous theory. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. In this
method the writer will analyze some of the conflicts contained therein, referring to the marx
conflict theory and by using the comparative literary method, and then in this study the writer
will analyze the selected data qualitatively.That is, in studying literary works with this
theory, it is not limited to discussing the intrinsic elements of literary works but is added with
studies of other related categories. Research data collection was carried out in the following
steps: reading short stories carefully, identifying data related to social conflict issues, taking
inventory of data, classifying data, selecting data, and finally reporting data into attachments.
There are several techniques for analyzing data, exposing, explaining, interpreting and finally
concluding, the authors analyze all these factors by classifying the conflicts that occur
according to the main character. The problem raised in this thesis is to analyze how conflict
occurs in the main character. In Jack London's short stories based on each factor, with this
analysis we will find out the characteristics of the three short stories written in this thesis
specifically, and in other short stories he wrote in general.

Penelitian ini berjudul "Analisis Konflik dalam Tiga Cerita Pendek Terpilih karya Jack London", yang berfokus pada analisis unsur-unsur konflik sosial dan konflik manusia versus alam, yang tertuang dalam tiga cerpen terpilih. yang ditulis oleh Jack London, yaitu: South of Slot, Love of Life, dan To Build of Fire. dan muncul sebagai bentuk penolakan terhadap teori sebelumnya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. dalam mengkaji karya sastra dengan teori ini tidak sebatas membahas unsur intrinsik karya sastra tetapi ditambah dengan kajian kategori terkait lainnya. Pengumpulan data penelitian dilakukan dengan langkah-langkah sebagai berikut: membaca cerpen dengan cermat, mengidentifikasi data yang terkait dengan masalah konflik sosial, menginventarisasi data, mengelompokkan data, memilih data, dan terakhir melaporkan data ke dalam lampiran. Ada beberapa teknik untuk menganalisis data, mengekspos, menjelaskan, menafsirkan dan akhirnya menyimpulkan, penulis menganalisis semua faktor tersebut dengan mengklasifikasikan konflik yang terjadi menurut tokoh utama. Permasalahan yang diangkat dalam tesis ini adalah menganalisis bagaimana konflik terjadi pada tokoh utama. Dalam cerpen Jack London berdasarkan masing-masing faktor, dengan analisis ini kita akan mengetahui ciri-ciri dari ketiga cerpen yang ditulis dalam skripsi ini secara spesifik, dan pada cerpen lain yang ia tulis secara umum.
