Definition of Real Number. - Any number that appears on the number line Types of a Real Numbers. - Includes fractions, decimals, whole numbers, and zero Definition of a Non-Real Number. - Is a number that can't exist in real math and therefore isn't on the number line. Non-Real Number Types that may appear on the ACT. - any number divided by zero AND the square root of a negative number (imaginary number/i) Definition of a Rational Number. - Is any number or fraction that can be expressed as a termination or repeating decimal. Definition of a Non-Rational Number (Irrational Number) - Is a real number that cannot be written as a fraction or a terminating or repeating decimal. Number Line - Represents the spectrum of all real numbers and symbolically extends infinitely in both directions. Definition of Absolute Value - Represents an expression's distance from zero on the number line. Rule of Absolute Value - Absolute value is always positive, because a distance is always positive. Definition of an Integer - any number, positive, negative, or zero, that can be written without a fractional or decimal component. Definition of a Whole Number - any positive integer and doesn't include zero.
Definition of a Multiple - Is a whole number that results from the product of two other whole numbers. Definition of a Factor - Is a whole number that results from dividing two other whole numbers. Definition of a Prime Number - Is a whole number that has exactly two factors: 1 and Itself. Definition of a Composite Number - Is a whole number that isn't prime; that is, it has more than two factors. Definition of Prime Factorization. - Is the factoring of a composite number to its primes, including duplicates. Definition of a Decimal - Represents a fraction where the denominator is a multiple of 10. Definition of a Percent. - Represents the first two decimal places of a decimal, or a fraction over 100. How To Find Percent of Change? - Place the quantity of change over the starting quantity, and convert this fraction with a denominator of 100. ((V2 - V1) / V1) × 100 how To Find Percent of a Group? - place the number of the subgroup over the entire group and convert the fraction. Definition of a Fraction. - Is a numerical quantity that is not a whole number. What is the reciprocal of a fraction? - Is the switching of its numerator and denominator. (Top becomes Bottom, Bottom becomes Top)
What is the format of a number in Scientific Notation? - A number, usually between 1 and 10, with a single decimal place, multiplied by a power of 10. Definition of an Equation. - Is a pair of two expressions that are equal in size, meaning one side equals the other side. Definition of a System of Equations. - Is two or more equations in a single instance. Definition of an "Unknown" or "Variable". - Is a number that might not be known and is typically represented by a letter, usually x. Definition of a Coefficient. - Is the quantity of like unknowns. Definition of Substitution. - refers to placing the given value of a letter into the equation. Definition of a Linear Equation - Is any equation with one or more unknowns, usually x and y, and no exponents, such as y =2x+3. What is the Quadratic Formula - Definition of a Square Root. - refers to a quantity that, when squared, yields the starting quantity. Definition of a Logarithmic Equation. - Is the inverse function of an exponential equation. Definition of a "Series" or "Sequence". - Is the adding of many quantities, one after another, to a given quantity, possibly in a repeating pattern. What is a Consecutive Number? - A series of numbers where each number follows the previous one with a common difference of 1.
What is the rule of consecutive numbers? - To be considered a consecutive number, all numbers in the series must change by the same amount. If it were to shift, the common difference is the same between each number. What is the Slope-Intercept Formula of a linear equation? - y = mx+b What is a Period aka "Phase" - Is the distance along the x-axis for the function to complete one full cycle. Definition of frequency. - is the number of cycles, or periods, in a given interval. Definition of Amplitude - Is the distance from the mean. A Line is? - Straight and Continuous A Segment is? - Is part of a line and can be indicated by its endpoints. How is an angle formed? - it is formed by the intersection of two lines or segments and can also be indicated by the endpoints. How many degrees do Complementary Angles add up to? - 90 degrees How many degrees do Supplementary Angles add up to? - 180 degrees What is a Triangle? - A three-sided shape with angles that always add up to 180 degrees. What is a Bisector? - Is a segment that bisects, or divides, an angle or another segment into two equal parts. What is a Perpendicular Bisector? - Is a segment that bisects another segment at 90 degrees
What is a Right Triangle? - Is a triangle where one angle is 90°, usually indicated by the right-angle symbol. What is the Pythagorean Theorem - a^2 + b^2 = c^ What is a Quadrilateral? - is any four-sided shape. It's angles always total 360° What is the formula for finding the area of a Square? - A = s^ What is the formula for finding the area of a Rectangle? - A = lw What is the formula for finding the area of a Parallelogram? - A = bh What is the formula for finding the area of an Trapezoid? - What is the formula for finding the area of a Rhombus? - What is the formula for finding the Circumference of a Circle? - C = πd Or C = 2πr What is the formula for finding the Area of a Circle? - A = πr^ What is the equation for a circle on a coordinate plane? - (x-h)^2+(y-k)^2=r^ What is the formula for finding the Volume of a Cylinder? - V = πr^2h What is the formula for finding the Volume of a Rectangular Solid/Rectangular Prism? - V = lwh What is the formula for finding the Volume of a Cube? - V = e^
