Agile Methodology for Technology-based Projects, Thesis of Financial Accounting

Why Agile methodology is the best approach for technology-based projects, particularly for creating a disruptive technology. It highlights the flexibility offered by Agile, which allows project team members to move back and forth between project stages without consequence. The document also compares Agile with the Waterfall method, which does not allow major changes and requires each phase to be completed before moving on to the next. It describes the roles of the Project Manager, Project Sponsor, Business Analyst, and Project Scrum Master in an Agile project.

Agile Methodology

Technology-based projects are best run under the Agile methodology. Creating a
disruptive technology entails a new level of thinking about both the problem and the solution and
challenges everyone on the team to step outside of standard procedures in an effort to invent
something new.
The reason why Agile is the best method for building a new mobile application is because
it offers the project team flexibility during the project. Agile allows many iterations and does not
require a previous stage to be completed before moving on to the next phase. In fact, the Agile
methodology allows project team members to go back and forth from one stage of the project to
another, without consequence.
The Waterfall method does not allow any major changes and each new phase builds on
the last phase. When following the Waterfall methodology, project team members cannot
move on to the next phase until the previous phase has been completed. If changes need to be
made and are not realized until the end of the project, then the project team must start over
from the very beginning. This would take a lot of time and money for any technology-based
project.
The Project manager role in an Agile project is to motivate the team to remain on time
and on budget. The Project Sponsor helps to define the project goals and objectives, including
the scope of the project. The Business Analyst provides some technical knowledge to direct the
project forward and to ensure that the business needs are met. “The Project Scrum Master
utilized a project management framework called scrum.” (Patwardhan, Kidd, Urena, &

The Scrum Master pushed the team toward the business objectives by tracking team progress and making fine-tuned changes alon the way.
