LIST OF PROJECTS/ RESEARCH ***Refer to this link: https://lib.dr.iastate.edu/abe_eng_etd/
Teaching and Learning Activities Exercise: As future Agricultural and Biosystems Engineer,
what research/project can you contribute for the betterment of agricultural industry in the
Philippines? (You can select 3 Theses or Research Papers in the link provided above and explain
why you choose these certain studies. Your explanation should be maximum of 5 sentences
ONLY.)
1. Modeling long-term impacts of alternative subsurface drainage systems and quantifying
impacts of cover crops, Kristina Jo Craft
In the future generation of agriculture, drainage systems have always been
a big role in the production of foods. Modeling long term impacts of
alternative subsurface drainage has a big impact to agricultural sector.
Controlled drainage systems can enhance yield productions. Controlled
drainage systems can also conserve water in the soil profile and alleviate
drought stress, which may result in increased crop yields. This practice has
been shown to be effective in reducing the total drainage volume and
associated nutrient loads from tile-drained agriculture, while also
providing an opportunity for improved crop yields in the next years.
2. Comparative assessment of the economic and environmental impacts of food waste
fermentation on value-added products, Noor Intan Shafinas Muhammad
Food waste is the most challenging problem that our world is facing right
now. That why this study can help reduce the increasing rate of food waste
and to convert it to something that can benefit both economic and
agricultural sector. This food waste can be utilized and can be potentially
used as organic fertilizer, sources of ethanol, and can be burnt and
converted into energy through combined heat and power processes. This
process is economic friendly and an excellent opportunity to convert waste
into something that can benefit the whole world and can practice all the
time.
3. Development of a specialty crop harvesting system, Brian Joseph McEvoy

  3. Development of a specialty crop harvesting system, Brian Joseph McEvoy
  • Agricultural sector is continue evolving and innovating, and new crops are being developed all over the time. The completion of harvesting marks is the end of the growing season, or the growing cycle for a particular crop. Harvesting is one of the hardest parts in gathering the crops that’s why developing a specialty crop harvesting system is very important because it can contribute to the reduction of postharvest losses, reduction of the harvest time in areas with several cropping seasons, where early crop establishment can contribute to higher yields for the following crop. Development of machineries or any systems in harvesting crops are really advantageous and essential, developing such systems is the future for agriculture. The availability of crop harvesting systems makes the work much easier and faster.
