INTRODUCTION

SIWES is the acronym for students industrial work experience scheme. It is a skill development programme that is designed to prepare students of higher institutions of learning like universities, polytechnics and college of education from college environment to the world of work. The program was created to give students experience in addition to theoretical learning. The scheme was initiated by the industrial training fund (ITF) in 1973. This project was necessary to improve practical skills of students. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF SIWES

  • (^) To prepare specialist who will be ready for any working situations immediately after graduation.
  • (^) To provide students with industrial skills and needed experience.
  • (^) To teach students the techniques and methods of working with facilities and equipment that may not be available within the walls of an educational institutions.
  • (^) To give students the ability to try and apply the given knowledge.

FISH FEED FORMULATION Manual formulation of 7.5kg of fish feed: The nutritional content (source of protein and carbohydrate) Ingredients: garri serves as binder (0.5kg), poultry feed (1.5kg), groundnut cake (1kg), wheat offal (0.5kg) maize (1.5kg), roasted soya beans or soya beans (1.5kg) and fish meal (1kg). Methods of preparation:  (^) Addition of enough hot water into the binder in a bowl  (^) Addition of all the ingredients into a bowl and mix thoroughly  (^) Addition of little quantity of red oil and keep mixing  (^) Addition of 8 eggs into the mixture, to enable the feed which in animal protein  (^) Addition of all the mixture to help bind the ingredients together  (^) Addition of little quality of water again and mix thoroughly  (^) Then cut into smaller sizes and dry it under the sun.  (^) It is ready for feeding

CONCLUSION The students industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) has really help us to acquire so many skills and differentiate between practical and theoretical aspect of our course of study. During the field or industrial scheme conducted, we are able to gain alot of practical experiences about the theoretical aspect of the courses we are taught in class.
