1. What were some of the things that happened that led to the writing of the Declaration
of Independence?
The Revolutionary War, American colonists were under the British Influence. The Americans
wanted to be free and have their own independent rights individually. They finally gained
independence and declared their colonies as states. Each state ended up having its own
constitutions with lists containing bills of rights.
2. Under the Articles of Confederation, how much power did the federal government
have?
In 1777, the AOC gave the central government had no power of individual rights, yet they
feared that the federal government would restrict their individual rights
3. In order for the Constitution to be adopted, what needed to happen?
They needed to rewrite the constitution entirely and based it off of We the People.
Ratification by 9 of the 13 states at ratifying conventions.
4. Many states submitted proposals for amendments to the Constitution….Who ultimately
put together a collection of “Bill of Rights” and is considered to be the “Father of the
Constitution?”
The person who put the Bill of Rights together and is the Father of the Constitution is James
Madison.
5. Originally, how many amendments were sent to the states to consider after the writing
of the Constitution?
12 amendments were sent, but they only went with 10 of them.
