1. Define biodiversity and give three types of biodiversity essential in preserving ecological

system and functions? 10 points

  • Biodiversity refers to the number of animals, plants, fungi, and even microbes such as

bacteria that compose up our natural environment. All of these species and animals work

together in ecosystems to preserve balance and sustain life, much like an elaborate web.

Anything we require to thrive in nature is supported by biodiversity: food, fresh water,

medication, and sanctuary. Genetic diversity, species diversity, and ecological diversity

are the three types of biodiversity that are commonly researched. The diversity of life on

Earth is created by the interaction of these three types of biodiversity. Within a species,

genetic diversity refers to the number of genes present. Every species is constructed

entirely of people with their very unique genetic structure. This indicates that a species

may have many populations, each with its own genetic structure. Distinct groups of a

species must be protected in order to preserve genetic diversity. The number of species in

a habitat or region is called species diversity. There are a lot of species in some

ecosystems, such as rainforests and coral reefs. There are fewer in places like salt flats or

a contaminated stream. The diversity of ecosystems in a given location is referred to as

ecosystem diversity. An ecosystem is a population of organisms that interact with their

physical surroundings. An ecosystem might cover a huge area, like a forest, or a tiny

region, like a pond.

2. What role does the environment play in addressing the needs of a society? 5 points

  • Basic human requirements such as food, refuge, and clothes are provided by the

environment. It also serves as a life doctor by supplying drugs to treat ailments. It is a

company that provides labor for society so that people can earn money to meet their basic

needs. It is a driving force behind tourism and recreation. Ecosystem services are

provided by the environment to meet the needs of living creatures. Water, air, soil,

minerals, and other natural resources are provided by the environment and are essential

for the survival, growth, and improvement of living beings.

3. How would you reconcile the emerging needs of human beings regarding their health and the

need to protect the growth of biodiversity? 5 points

  • In doing so, we may match the rising requirements of humans in terms of health with the

need to preserve biodiversity increase. Water conservation is important for the

ecosystem. It lowers the amount of energy needed to treat and distribute water,

minimizing pollution and preserving fuel resources. Local organic agriculture should be

supported. Develop small, local farms that increase food variety, quantity, and quality

through polyculture and permaculture approaches. Lessens the need for transportation,

lowering carbon emissions. It improves food security. Biodiversity has increased. Reduce

your meat consumption; red meat emits 10 to 40 times the amount of greenhouse gases as

typical veggies and cereals.

4. Do you think that Earth can exist without human beings taking care of it? Or biodiversity

also needs human beings for it to be in a continuous growing process? 5 points

people, and animal habitats. environment, people, and animal habitats. Solutions Students use limited detail to describe a feasible solution and explain how it would help solve their environmental issue. Students used some detail to describe some feasible solutions and explain how they would help solve their environmental issue. Students use adequate detail to describe many solutions and explain how they ould help solve their environmental issue. Students use extensive detail to describe multiple creative solutions and explain how they would help solve their environmental issue. Aesthetic Students use images, font, and colours to present their topic with limited effectiveness. Students use images, font, and colours that are somewhat appropriate to enhance the presentation of the topic. Students use images, font, and colours that are appropriate to enhance the presentation of the topic. Students carefully select images, font, and colours that are appropriate to enhance the presentation of the topic. Conventions Spelling and punctuation require further editing. Spelling and punctuation are used correctly some of the time. Spelling and punctuation are mostly used correctly. Spelling and unctuation are always used correctly. Organization and Detail Ideas are disorganized and communicated with few details. Ideas are somewhat organized and/or limited in detail. Detailed ideas are organized logically and communicated clearly. Ideas are organized logically and communicated with great detail.

Rubric Environmental Concept Map

Task (1 – 4 pts) (5-6 pts) (7-8 pts)

  1. Identify the key concepts Concepts drawn from many of the main topics from sessions 1-4 and include some ideas not provided in the assignment handout. Concepts drawn from most of the main topics from sessions 1-4 and include several ideas not provided in the assignment handout. Concepts drawn from all of the main topics from sessions 1-4 and include many ideas not provided in the assignment handout.
  2. Connect the key concepts Concepts are connected with logical linking words Concepts are connected with logical linking words that clearly indicate relationships between concepts (intermediate level criteria) plus relationships reflect multiple dimensionality - more than a single overarching concept
  3. Integrate the key concepts and frame the proposition A reasonable and applicable proposition is provided. Can be very general. A proposition is provided that reflects original thinking and reflects the specific structure of the concept map A proposition is provided that reflects the details of the concept map and includes connections that link different areas of the map
