Course Overview
Course Description
This co urse will provide an intr odu ction to human anato my primarily thr ough the study of surface form and
skeletal and muscular stru ctur es. E mphasis will be p laced on d irect o bservation o f th e nude model, th e
écorch é mod el, skeleton , casts and pr epared anatomical specimens. A range of approaches w ill be
included to encourage stud ents to u nder stand basic anatomical co nstructs and drawing. Persp ectives on
historical and contemporary anatomical art will pro vide stu dents with a platform for developin g th eir own
investigation s and creative respo nses.
Course Learning Outcomes
On completion of this co urse, the stud ent shou ld be able to:
1. Employ appropriate dr awing processes, graphic mater ials and techniques to render the human
figure and anatomical subject.
2. Demonstrate an u nderstand ing of figure drawin g and h uman anatomy throug h the objective analysis
of su rface form and skeletal and muscular structur es.
3. Develop interpretative, con ceptu al, and thematic respo nses to the anato mical subject.

Course Overview

Course Description

This course will provide an introduction to human anatomy primarily through the study of surface form and skeletal and muscular structures. Emphasis will be placed on direct observation of the nude model, the écorché model, skeleton, casts and prepared anatomical specimens. A range of approaches will be included to encourage students to understand basic anatomical constructs and drawing. Perspectives on historical and contemporary anatomical art will provide students with a platform for developing their own investigations and creative responses.

Course Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Employ appropriate drawing processes, graphic materials and techniques to render the human figure and anatomical subject.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of figure drawing and human anatomy through the objective analysis of surface form and skeletal and muscular structures.
  3. Develop interpretative, conceptual, and thematic responses to the anatomical subject.
