Appendix 1 Architectural Design Development Design Brief Background A Commercial hub is an urban area designated for for-profit businesses. These businesses typically contribute to the community's growth. Everything you need for daily living is within walking distance of commercial hubs. There is no doubt that living near a commercial hub has numerous advantages. Due to the Philippines' rapid development, commercial hubs have thrived as well. Some of the top benefits of living near a commercial hub include proximity to essential establishments, high appreciation rates, and more business and employment opportunities. To further enhance the Commercial Hub, a Recreational space is integrated these spaces are meant for public enjoyment and relaxation. It is supposed to be a tool to entertain the members and visitors. The traditional statement includes a mission to:

  • Foster – encourage the development or growth of ideas to stimulate new innovations with local products.
  • Establish – maintain a stable and competent commercial and recreational hub that will contribute to the community and the environment.
  • Promote – showcasing of products to provide new and unique experiences. Statement of the Problem Local micro and small enterprises (MSEs) have emerged during the pandemic, but face challenges in surviving and expanding. Lack of support and opportunities, inadequate facilities such as stalls, co-working spaces, offices, and recreational spaces. These factors

affect the growth of local micro and small enterprises in the market. Angeles City, particularly Barangay. Pampang needs a Local Commercial and Recreational Hub. This Local Commercial and Recreational Hub will foster local micro and small enterprises and shall be able to accommodate local products from other regions. Definition of Terms

  • Commercial - means involving or relating to the buying and selling of goods.
  • Hub - a place as a hub of activity when it is a very important center for that activity.
  • Recreational - relating to or denoting activity done for enjoyment when one is not working. Objectives Table 1 This table shows the interrelationship of the objectives, considerations, and criteria set by the researcher Project Objectives Design Objectives Design Consideration Design Criteria To establish a business incubator for community vitality that will encourage long-term, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, as well as full and productive employment and decent labor for all people. (UN SDG No. 8). To design a development that satisfies economic demands while also providing a communal opportunity. To foster a facility that helps micro and small enterprises with To plan a development that helps and supports Functional and Chronological Zoning By designing a development that aligns with the

from both the built and natural environment. It is the duty of architects to protect nature and bring comfort to people. Design Concept The development of the Commercial and Recreational Hub is envisioned to be a modern business district for Angeles City that focuses on local products. The prominence of local products will establish the sense of identity of the development whilst incorporating Kapampangan culture. The development becomes a new center for community wellness that promotes innovation and leisure experience. The development is influenced by the history of Angeles City, thus it also aims to represent local elements and incorporate a sustainable and inclusive environment.

The development will be entitled “Pun” which means beginning, it’s the representation of the development’s advocacy that protects and helps Local businesses to prosper in today’s market. Moreover, the structure’s form will be a representation of the first letter of the concept, the letter “P” which will be divided into 3 forms.

Figure 2

Initial sketch showing the organic influence of the Local Commercial and Recreational Hub. The illustration showcases the massing of buildings, from the concept to the distribution of spaces. This approach signifies the innovations of Kapampangan as they are known for their creativity. Passive Design and Universal Design Approaches are considered and incorporated into the buildings to improve the indoor environment and also provide quality experience for all. Vertical Louvers

The slab becomes a vertical wall, greatly reducing the amount of solar heat gain throughout the afternoon from the west. Thus, the vertical fin facade eliminates the need for additional internal shutters by reducing glare from direct sunlight.

The green wall system is one of the low impact developments (LID) solutions capable of increasing green spaces in urban areas, aiming to improve the aesthetic value of the building while also reducing the environmental impacts caused by urbanization and climate change (Palermo & Turco, 2020). Structural Concepts Continuous or Spot Footing Continuous or spot footing generally carries columns and/or grade beams. With a wider than- normal footing, the structural load is distributed into the soil surrounding the building’s foundation. This commercial foundation type is also referred to as a shallow foundation and is commonly used in commercial construction.
