1 Demonstrate the following knowledge and understanding Demonstrate a knowledge of alternative research methods and techniques which will enable you to define research questions, and to understand and assess the theoretical implications and limitations of chosen research methods 2 Demonstrate the following skills and abilities Select appropriate areas of academic theory for critical evaluation and review. Develop a research proposal which defines a precise research question, selects appropriate theoretical concepts to explore, and potentially identifies empirical data with which to test theoretical models and frameworks.
You are required to develop a research proposal for the dissertation you plan to complete in Semester 2. Your Research Proposal should include the following: Identify one or more research questions, and the research aim and objectives, based on your initial literature review. A justification of your choice of the subject describing the context and the rationale (why you think it is important to research this specific topic and comment on the potential use and benefits of this research) A discussion of potential issues you may encounter during the research process, such as accessibility to the data, time and resources needed to complete the research, validity of the data, and potential ethical issues A project plan with a time line. Guidelines and Additional Information The research proposal is an individual piece of work. Your research must be secondary research, which uses only secondary (published) data and information. Therefore, you must not conduct any primary research (i.e. no questionnaires and interviews to collect primary data! Your secondary data could be the primary data of secondary sources you may want to use for your research – discuss this with your tutor for more clarity. You need to conduct an investigation into what secondary data are available before confirming your research question(s). Please note that your selected topic must be relevant to your chosen pathway, e.g., Marketing, Finance, Business, etc. You should consider the various research methods available to develop a sound and feasible plan to carry out your research project. You are recommended to use the agreed template to structure your assignment. Assessment 2 is a research proposal, which will be used to develop into the dissertation in Semester 2. Therefore, assessment 2 is very important.
In order to pass Assessment 2 you will need to: Produce a dissertation proposal of no more than 1,500 words which will enable you to define a research question, identify the research domains you wish to explore and identify a project plan for the completion of your dissertation.

2 Rationale and context (30%) The aims and objectives are not put in context. The added value of studying the specific subject is not clear Reasonable justification of the choice of the aims and objectives. Research questions/objectives make sense to the reader but importance not well established. Clear and concise justification of the subject’s choice. Research questions or objectives have the potential to benefit the target audience. Added value of the research discussed Logical and coherent explanation of the subject’s choices. Research questions/objectives have the potential to add value to the target audience and are achievable. 3 Project plan, Presentation and Completeness (20%) An attempt to develop the project plan but the timeline in the Gantt chart is not appropriate or poor – doubtful feasibility. Poor understanding of the project plan. The Gantt chart is unclear and does not cover all key aspects of the research. Some attempt to follow template but some required elements may be missing or misinterpreted. The readers have difficulty understanding content of the report. Template used. Project plan with timeline is reasonable and feasible. The Gantt chart is clear but covers a few aspects of the research. All the required elements are included, but some elements may not have sufficient detail. Language and grammar may result in readers having some difficulty in understanding the content of the report. A good project plan developed with appropriate timeline for various aspects of the research shown in the Gantt chart. Project plan is feasible. Good implementation of the template - the report is well organized with a clear logic. All the elements as needed are included, but a clear flow between the sections may be missing. The content of the report is presented clearly and logically. Readers can follow the content without difficulty. A logical and comprehensive project plan developed with appropriate timeline for various aspects of the research shown in the Gantt chart. Excellent implementation of the template with a logical flow and clear logic between sections. The report is comprehensive with all the required elements included. Readers can appreciate the content very easily. 4 Referencing (10%) Use of Harvard referencing system has been attempted but without much success.
