ECE 732: Mobile Communication Systems
Prof. B.-P. Paris
Homework 6
Due: October 8, 2007
Suggested Reading: Review - Tse and Viswanath, chapter 3.
Problems
1. Set up and perform in MATLAB a set of Monte Carlo simulations
to measure the bit error rate for a narrow-band communications
system using uncoded BPSK modulation for the following cases:
(a) a system with a single transmit antenna and 3 receive anten-
nas,
(b) a system with three transmit antennas and 1 receive antenna.
For each system plot the bit error rate as a function of SNR and
compare to the theoretical error rates. Assume that the receiver
knows all channel coefficients.
2. Repeat for the case where the receiver has to estimate the chan-
nel coefficients from the received signal. Describe what provisions
must be made to allow the receiver to determine the channel co-
efficients and how the receiver performs the estimation.
