Unit 2- Assignment 2
Demonstrate care values and review own practice
Perform your role play
- You must perform your role play and get feedback from Miss Mills and your peers.
- Everyone MUST take the leading role in the role play! This is the care worker or the volunteer.
- In your pairs/groups use the same script and perform it a few times
- IF YOU DO NOT DO YOUR ROLE PLAY YOU CANNOT PASS! This is because as you see on the next slide you must DEMONSTRATE!
What does this assignment look like?
- This assignment is split into three sections.
- You will be assessed through an observation by your teacher , and a written report.
Section 1- two role plays!
- This will cover 1P3, 1M3 &2P3.
- For each scenario, you must show in your role plays that you can demonstrate all the following care values:
- Empowering and promoting independence
- Respect for the individual
- Maintaining confidentiality
- Preserving the dignity of individuals
- Effective communication that displays empathy and warmth
- Safeguarding and a duty of care
- Promoting anti-discriminatory practice
- You will get time to plan for how you will show these care values!
‘You are a volunteer in a residence for older people. One of the residents has difficulty in dressing and has asked you to help them put on their jacket. The resident has a condition which affects her joints and this means that she needs help with everyday tasks, because of the pain in her wrists and elbows.’
How you can use the specification in your role play! (ALL MUST BE USED)
- Effective communication that displays empathy and warmth – shown in the manner you talk and interact with the resident
- Respect for the individual – showing that you use their name
- Duty of care to report any concerns about the resident that link with safeguarding
- Preserving the dignity of individuals – making sure that you close doors/curtains when dressing resident, you try to keep her covers so that she doesn’t feel embarrassed
- Promoting anti-discriminatory practice – making sure that you do not discriminate against the elderly
- Empowering and promoting independence – giving the resident advice to help her dress her self or giving her dressing aids to help make life easier for her giving her independence
Example of how to write a script
Care worker: Hello, I'm Sophie your new care worker, I'm here to assist you in getting dressed Alice : Hello, another new care worker! There seems to be someone new everyday, I'm fed up of you lot changing! (Angry and scowling) Care Worker: Think how will you respond in a positive way to hit the specification Effective communication that displays empathy and warmth
On each line you MUST put brackets as to how that person will respond for example (no eye contact, smiling, grumpy)
ALL SPEC MUST BE HIT IN YOUR ROLE PLAY! Where you think it is been shown in your role play you need to put in bold next to it!

‘You are a volunteer at a training centre for young adults who have learning disabilities. The manager has asked you to work with a group to plan a birthday party for one of the staff at the centre.’
How you can use the specification in your role play! (ALL MUST BE USED)
- Empowering and promoting independence – ask the young adults for ideas and write them down, use their name to ask their opinion on what they would like to do at a party
- Respect for the individual – give time to the individual to think of an idea with out rushing them, give them time to communicate their idea, don’t laugh at them make them feel important
- Maintaining confidentiality – part of organising the party you might have to know the medical history of those attending the event, you need to make sure that this information is kept in a locked filling cupboard or password protected on a computer
- Preserving the dignity of individuals –
- Effective communication that displays empathy and warmth – friendly, listening to responses and communicating effectively back
- Safeguarding and a duty of care – any concerns in regards to safeguarding or harm must be reported, you have a duty of care for all young adults that they are safe and away from harm
- Promoting anti-discriminatory practice – making sure there is no discrimination aimed at the young people with learning disabilities or anyone else

This is going to be a group role play, one volunteer and 3 people with learning difficulties

Section 3
- This will cover 2M2 & 2D2.
- Recommend improvements in the way you could have applied the care values in your role plays, what could you have done differently?
- Make sure to give reasons (justify) why you have made these suggestions.
- You must refer to the feedback that you received from your teacher, what improvements did they suggest and why?
