Assignment Instructions Assignment Title: Framing an Issue Paper Objective: To develop a well-reasoned argument supported by research. Scenario: You have been asked to analyze a social, economic, or ethical issue by framing it from a scholarly perspective. Requirements:
During the 2023-2024 school year, 93% of the student body was using their cell phones in class. The High School hosts around 31 teachers including resource and intervention teachers. Of those 31 teachers, 15 of them 48% requested students to stay off their phones during instruction; out of those 15 teachers, 3 (.2%) held students accountable to this request by having 03:49:12 GMT -05: students use a phone locker, taking the student's phones, and/or writing the students up. This gap goes even further when it comes to students skipping class, as only 10% of teachers write students up for multiple tardies and skipping classes. With no school-wide policy, there is nothing keeping students from using their phones during class or showing up to class. High school students are at a stage academically where they are no longer fully learning new skills, just demonstrating the ones they have previously learned. They feel they are old enough to not be told what to do, and therefore following directions is a harder task for them to complete. Add this to the world of technology, and the two create disaster. Students at the high school age hardly see the benefit of good grades as an enough reward to warrant good academic practices, likewise, they do not have enough consequences to prompt them to keep the phones away, stay in class and get their work finished and turned in. Guiding Research Questions
the most important aspect of the interview, ensuring that the stakeholder feels comfortable giving this information is an equally important aspect. The data collection phase will consist of interviewing three stake holders including, one teacher, one classified staff member, and a member of the administration team, the dean of students. Anonymous names will be given to the staff members to ensure their privacy. Mrs. X the teacher, has years of experience at the High school and has worked under multiple administrative teams during her tenure. Mrs. Y, the classified staff, has worked as a paraprofessional at multiple schools in different school districts; she brings experience from seeing how other schools handle behaviors. Mr. L, the dean of students, spends his days working with other administrators and dealing with the students, he knows both sides. The three stakeholders interviewed will be contacted via email to set up a time and date for the interview. Once the time and date have been agreed upon. The participants will be sent links to join. The interview will be recorded word for word; the participants will have the opportunity to listen to the interview to ensure that the information is correct and what was said during the interview. According to (Stringer & Aragon, 2021, p. 132). This ensures that the stakeholders interviewed can verify that the data is correct, likewise giving them a chance to add anything they feel relevant.
