Requirements for this examination: CAD room in Mechanical/Manufacturing Dept. Part A: sketch paper, steel rule, vernier, micrometer, protractor Part B & C: Auto Cad software, specialised dept account set up for the student for the exams.

Do not log onto the terminal until Part A below is complete and the mechanical assembly is returned to the invigilator. This should take 1 hour, with a maximum limit of 2 hours.

Part A You are required to sketch both an assembly and individual part drawings of the mechanical assembly model you are given during the exam. Your sketches

  • Do not have to be drawn to scale but the dimensions should be correct as per the model
  • Must be in metric
  • Should be neat
  • Displayed as 3 rd^ angle drawings
  • Each part should be given a number, which should appear as balloon referencing on the assembly sketch.

Do not log onto the terminal until the mechanical assembly is returned to the invigilator. You must only use your sketched drawings to complete the remaining two parts of the assessment. First create a folder with your name and Aut08mech6008 on it. All the drawings you create should be saved into this folder. At the end of the assessment this folder must be transferred to the assessment folder set by the technician for the exam.

Part B You are required to use AutoCAD software to

  • Create a metric template with A3 size, with border & title block in paperspace. Layers, linetypes and lineweights should be included (see attached handout)
  • Draw individual 2D part drawings for each part in third angle projection.
  • Produce as per international drawing standards completing the following: o Three views of each part. o Each part should be fully dimensioned (either in modelspace or paperspace). o Each view should be blocked for future use in the assembly drawing. o Appropriate layers, linetypes and lineweights should be used.
