Background of the study
Chemistry prepares the student to fully comprehend the composition and
properties of matter, changes and interactions of matter. Until now, not all school
laboratories had the tools to use to identify the composition and other properties
of a solid substance. Also, it takes time to analyze the composition of a
substance because you need to use many different methods. This is where XRF
(X-ray fluorescence) comes into the picture. But still, many people don’t know
what XRF is and have a lack of information about how it is used and what it is
used for.
X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry is a well-known, well-established
and widely applied technique in the determination of many major elemental
compositions of earth materials. XRF confers the ability to analyze solid samples
non-destructively through X-radiation. The orderliness and clarity of its emission
spectrum, its great accuracy and precision make this technique a geochemical
method of choice in mineralogy and investigation of the chemical composition of
earth materials.)(Oyedotun 2017)
Aside from laboratory, people often use XRF scanner in medical, metal
fabricating, automotive and aerospace, metal recycling, mining, constructions,
and checking artifacts and paintings because it’s fast, easy to use and
nondestructive. This technology can help to improve the quality of learning and
the understanding about chemistry.
