1. Press Win + D to show the desktop
2. Create a new file:
a. Right click on the desktop
i. Select “New”
ii. Select “Microsoft Word Document”
b. Click the desktop to clear the selection
c. Click the file to select it
d. Press F2 to rename it
e. Type “LastName” (where LastName is your last name) and press enter to rename the
file. If the filename extension was visible, be sure to include that in the filename (e.g.
"LastName.doc" or "LastName.docx"), otherwise you will be asked if you wanted to
change the extension.
3. Open Word Pad and open file:
a. Press the Windows key to open the start menu
b. Click on “All Programs”
c. Click on “Accessories”
d. Click on “WordPad”
e. Press Ctrl + O to open the file
f. Click the dropdown at the top of the dialog and select “Desktop”
g. Click the dropdown at the bottom of the dialog and select “All Documents (*.*)”
h. Double Click on your file to open it
4. Type your name and the date at the top of the file, then press enter (or return) for a new line.
5. Type “1. Clipboard:” and press enter for a new line
6. Open a web browser :

  1. Press Win + D to show the desktop

  1. Practice selection techniques and use of the clipboard: a. Triple click on a paragraph to select it b. Click Ctrl + C to copy the text to the clipboard c. Click Alt + Tab until you return to WordPad d. Go to where you had been typing and click Ctrl + V to paste from the clipboard e. Press Alt + Print Screen to copy the current application’s screen to the clipboard f. Press Ctrl + V to paste from the clipboard g. Double click the first word of the paragraph to select it h. Press Ctrl + X to cut the word to the clipboard i. Press Ctrl + Down to jump to the bottom of the paragraph j. Press enter for a new line, and click Ctrl +V to paste the word below the paragraph k. Use the scroll wheel and scroll bars to find the lower-right corner of the picture you just pasted. l. Click the picture if it isn’t selected, and drag the box at the lower right up and to the left to make the picture a reasonable size
  2. Type “2. Parts of a Computer:” and list as many as you remember
  3. Type “3. Operating Systems:” and list as many as you remember
  4. Save and submit a. Press Ctrl + S to save the file b. Press Alt + F4 to close the application c. Press Win + E to open windows explorer
