“Just wakin' up in the mornin' gotta thank
God”
Ice cube starts off his song with this line
showing the listener how he is grateful
every morning just to be able to start a
new day. Alluding to his thoughts on how
important life is to him.
“I don't know but today seems kinda odd
No barkin' from the dog, no smog”
Does Ice Cube normally feel bothered by
the dog and smog to be able to tell when
it’s missing in the morning?
“Thinkin' will I live another twenty-fo'”
Cube shows how growing up where he
does, it's common for people to have to
worry about whether or not they will live to
see another day.
Lookin' in my mirror, not a jacker in sight
And everything is alright
Why is today so different from others?
“I can't believe, today was a good day”
This line is repeated throughout to show
that everything is going as planned for ice
cube and then it is all weird to him
“Saw the police and they rolled right past
me”
Is it a normal occurrence for the police to
bother Ice cube, that he finds it odd they
didn’t pull him over?
“Today I didn't even have to use my A.K
I got to say it was a good day”
This alludes to the fact, that he grows up
in an area where gang activity is normal
and that today was a good day because
there wasn’t any violence
The video ends with Ice Cube showing up
to his house late at night and he ends up
being swatted by the police.
Ice Cube uses the music video to show
how it’s hard where he lives to have a
good day, even when he thinks everything
is going well it always ends up bad.
