they located? Give all names of each valve. The four valves in the heart are the tricuspid, bicuspid, pulmonary semilunar, and aortic semilunar valve. The tricuspid valve is located between the right atrium and the right ventricle. This valve allows deoxygenated blood to flow from the right atrium to the right ventricle. The bicuspid valve which is also known as the mitral valve is located between the left atrium and left ventricle. The pulmonary semilunar valve is located between the right ventricle and the pulmonary trunk. Lastly, the aortic semilunar valve is located between the left ventricle and aorta. What is a mitral valve prolapse and what causes this in Marfan’s syndrome specifically? “The valve leaflets become floppy and do not close tightly, allowing blood to leak backwards across the valve” (Cleveland Clinic, 2021). A defective mitral valve can also cause a reduction in cardiac output which can prevent enough oxygen to reach the body tissues. When the ventricles contract, the mitral valve leaflets close tight to prevent any back flow of blood from the left ventricle into the left atrium. Mitral valve prolapse was caused by Marfan’s syndrome because there was a congenital disorder of the connective tissues.
