Title: How did Rosa Parks change America? LO: To investigate the significance of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
In 1955 busses were segregated , meaning that white people sat at the front and black people sat at the back. One day a bus driver told Rosa Parks to stand up to let a white person sit down. She refused to move. She was arrested by the police and fined $14. She refused to pay saying the law was illegal. Eventually the Supreme Court in America declared the bus segregation illegal. Black people could now sit wherever they wanted! The boycott lasted for 381 days! The bus companies lost lots of money because 60-70% of their customers were black. The whole black community in her town of Montgomery supported her. They boycotted the busses and got around by other methods
