BRUSHLESS DC MOTOR

CONTROLLER

INTRODUCTION

Brushless DC (BLDC) motors find use in many applications ranging

from printer head motors to large conveyor belt drivers.

Examples of such applications include:

 Water pumps

 Oil pumps

 Fuel pumps

 Hydraulic pumps

 Air conditioning compressor and many more.

MODULES

 SERIAL COMMUNICATION

DB9 Connector MAX232 is used for level shifting.

 PWM GENERATION

PWM signal energizes motor windings according to position shown by HALL sensors. The signal from PC through serial port is used as reload value for PWM generation.

 MOSFET DRIVER & BRIDGE

Signal generated from microcontroller can not drive motor. For this we need MOSFET Bridge. Also the signal from microcontroller can not drive MOSFET so a gate drive stage is needed.

 HALL SENSORS

Use of Hall sensor to detect the location of the stator with

respect to the rotor, the sensors' outputs are related to the motor.

Following is a detailed diagram.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM

LIMITATIONS

 Controlling speed in only 3 levels low, medium and high  Working for a frequency of value 1 KHz.

FUTURE IMPLEMENTATIONS

 Enhancements in speed control levels.  Provision of User Interactive Environment  Frequency range can be varied
