FOCUS OF THE COURSE

  • Level 3 BTEC is focused on how to use computers effectively in business.
  • Learners will develop a core of IT knowledge and will study areas such as the relationship between hardware and software that form IT systems, managing and processing data to support business and using IT to communicate and share information.

THE EXTERNALLY ASSESSED UNITS Unit Type Unit 1 : Information Technology Systems

  • Written examination set and marked by Pearson
  • 90 marks
  • Two hours Unit 2 : Creating Systems to Manage Information
  • Task set by Pearson and completed under supervised conditions
  • In part A, learners will complete five activities in three hours on the afternoon of the first day
  • In part B, learners will complete three activities in two hours on the morning of the second day
  • Completed using a computer and submitted electronically
  • 66 marks

THE EXTERNALLY ASSESSED UNITS Unit Type Unit 1 : Information Technology Systems A. Digital devices in IT systems B. Transmitting data C. Operating online D. Protecting data and information E. Impact of IT systems F. Issues (Moral, Ethical and Legal) Unit 2 : Creating Systems to Manage Information A. The purpose and structure of relational database management systems B. Standard methods and techniques to design relational database solutions C. Creating a relational database structure D. Evaluating a database development project

SUITABILITY

  • The Level 2 BTEC in Digital Information Technology naturally leads into the Level 3 BTEC
  • An IT or computing qualification is not essential to study the Level 3 BTEC

LEADS ON TO

  • The qualification, when studied with other Level 3 qualifications, is aimed at progression to higher education.
  • But it also enables learners to develop knowledge and skills needed for entry-level roles related to IT, including vocational apprenticeship roles and trainee/entry-level roles such as a social media specialist, web/content developer, or business analyst.
