METAL ROLLING SHUTTERS
Rolling shutters are a type of door normally used for
godowns and shops. The specification of rolling shutter shall
be as per the requirement of the client.
Metal Rolling Shutters should conform to IS:6248. The rolling
shutter accessories should be as specified and approved
should be suitable for fixing in position as specified i.e.
outside or inside; on or below lintel or between jambs of the
opening.
Rolling shutter can be hand operated or gear operated. Hand
operated shutters are of push and pull type. Gear operated
shutters are provided with reduction gear operated by
mechanical device with chain, crank, shaft and handle. The
shutter consist of 80 mm wide MS laths 1.25 mm thick or
gauge as specified of mild steel sheet machine rolled. Laths
are inter-locked together throughout its entire length and
jointed together at the end with end locks. These are
mounted on specially designed pipe shaft.
Pulling Hook โ The steel rod, shaped
into a hook at one end & into a ring at
other end, used for raising & lowering
self coiling type rolling shutters.
Roller โ The entire rolling portion at
the top of the shutter including the
suspension shaft, the pulleys, the
springs and ball bearings if any.
Stopper Height โ The stopper height
of a rolling shutter shall be the height
measured from the sill to the bottom
of lock plate, when the rolling shutter
is in the full open position.
Hood Cover โ A sheet metal cover bent into suitable shape for covering the roller.
Overall Height โ The distance between sill and the top of the bracket plate of the
rolling shutter plus an allowance of not more than 150mm.
Overall width โ The outer distance between the backs of the two guide channels of
the rolling shutter.
Measurement of Rolling Shutter:
The rolling shutter is measured in terms of area in square m (SQM), the payable area shall
be obtained from the net opening for which the rolling shutter has been provided.
Sizes
The size of rolling shutter shall be denoted by specifying the clear width and he clear
height of the opening for which the rolling shutter is required.
Types
Based on position fixing
Types of shutters โ 1) Self coiling or push-pull type/ Manual Type โ Shall be used upto
max. of 8 Sqm clear area, without ball bearing and up to 12 sqm with ball bearing.
- Gear Operated or Mechanical Type โ with ball bearings, shall be used upto max. of 25
sqm clear area, if the shutter is operated with bevel gear box and crank handle. And upto
35 sqm if the rolling shutter is operated by chain wheel & hand hand chain mounted on the
worn shaft.
- Electrical operated Type โ shall be used upto max. of 50 sqm clear area.
