Application Of Career Guidance in Schools Introduction Career development is considered a continued lifelong process of the development of experiences that mainly focus on seeking, processing, and obtaining vital information on self, educational alternatives, occupations, and lifestyles. It can also be recognized as the process that is followed by people toward the understanding of their relation to the world and the roles they have in it (Ekanesia, 2022). It is also imperative to consider individual fashions of identity when educating the young people who are needed in the school systems while considering their responsibilities in the future. In addition, career development is an intentional approach that involves finding the footing and advancements in a career path, and it creates a meaningful career that involves long-term goals, gaining working experiences, and exploration of professional development in career opportunities (Suleh & Francisca, 2021). Career development is significant because it helps the professional ensure that they have entry and can transverse the path of their career, improving their skills and values. Career guidance and academic counseling mainly provide students in schools with crucial tools that are applied to set career goals and provide the required understanding of the skills and education that are needed to meet the goals. There are various theories that are involved in the description of career behaviors and showing the purpose of career counseling, education, and career guidance. The impact and outcomes of career development and counseling are a socialization aspect of the human development process (Bersan et al., 2024). market supply and demand. I would ensure the career information contains the implications of occupations following the educational decisions and the different learning pathways that students need to follow to lead to their different occupational destinations. Career exploration should mainly match the people's individual qualities within a workplace environment. I have to ensure that students in the school are participating in career guidance where they are achieving their social modeling, which is considered the second domain through which the individuals are developing their self-efficacy; through this, I would ensure that many people are examining their levels of participation in career exploration which is significant in the process of career development (Ayriza et al., 2020). Following Holland's theory, I would help students choose careers or educational programs that align with their interests and personalities. Within the culture, various individuals are having six personality types that include realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional. This implies that the students in a school center should be led to understand their skills and abilities and how they should express their attitudes and values in different working perceptions. Ayriza et al. (2020) argue, "Childhood is a vital period in which children should obtain an awareness and understanding of career as in this stage they have had the capacity of thinking about their future career by using their imagination and knowledge. Not only that, this childhood stage will play a pivotal role in helping them find suitable careers as they grow older. The fact that children have already been familiar with the world of career in terms of interest and knowledge...” Following the Holland Theory, career counseling helps students become oriented in a working environment that is not overwhelming, and it provides an understanding of the various working environments. However, this does not provide students with insights on developing the guidance for working with the students. I can assess the abilities, interests, and values of students using Holland's Self-
Directed Search tool and also can organize the activities and workshops that effectively help the students from the school center to explore their various career interests and options following the personality types, such as realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising and conventional. In addition, I can provide the students with varying counseling and guidance sessions that would help them understand their personality traits that are related to various career paths and ensure they are led in making informed decisions. Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory in career guidance involves the self-system where the individuals exercise their control over their actions, feelings, and thoughts, and through this, I am able to determine different students’ ways of coping behaviors, consider the results of the efforts and how long the efforts within the students are sustained in facing challenges (Lent, 2020). As a counselor, I can assist the students in increasing their self-awareness, making decisions, and setting goals while establishing a plan of action. Career guidance may help individuals choose their specific careers as they suit their aptitudes, abilities, and interests. Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory follows the determination of career development, which is mainly represented by specific variables such as expectations of the outcomes, personal goals, and self-efficacy. Through career guidance, I can help the students observe their experiences and behaviors because every individual has different career paths through their information mentors and models. In career guidance, it's crucial for students to explore and understand the potential outcomes of different career choices, including job satisfaction, financial rewards, work-life balance, and opportunities for growth and advancement (Wang et al., 2022). Through the integration of Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory within the career guidance, I can empower the students to make informed career decisions, effectively navigate career paths, and develop confidence in their abilities (Pasha & Abedi, 2020). This theory is linked to the environmental
social cognitive theory, I can facilitate observational learning by inviting professionals from various fields to share their journey in career development so that the students can learn about the challenges and opportunities that they can have around their career path. In addition, it encourages the students to work effectively, such that they engage in shadowing jobs, internships, and mentorship programs, and they observe and also learn from professionals who are highly experienced (Ayriza et al., 2020). The social cognitive theory majors on self-efficacy, which involves the different capabilities of an individual in organizing and executing their courses towards the achievement of the constructions based on the vicarious experience, emotional and psychological factors, verbal persuasion, and individual performance. The concept of self-efficacy plays a crucial role in the cognitive regulation of motivations, and this is because of the individuals who are regulating their levels and distribution of efforts that lead to their expansion with effects of their action’s expectations (Patton & McMahon, 2021). I can help the students develop self-efficacy by setting career goals that are achievable, guiding them through acquiring relevant competencies, skills, and knowledge, and providing them feedback on their progress. Super’s Developmental Self-Concept Theory is a theory that is mainly linked to vocational development, where the self-concepts are developed and implemented, and this becomes more stable and realistic. It is also related to vocational choice and behavior. Super's ideas are linked to the career education programs where the students are supposed to choose occupations that can give them permission to express their self-concepts (Alsqour & Al- Shoubaki, 2020). According to Super's theory of development, self-concept mainly changes over time and also develops through continued experiences. As a career guidance counselor, I have to recognize that career development involves a long-life process of determining and providing the
required support in different stages of academic and personal development support for students (Schunk & DiBenedetto, 2020). Career exploration activities are offered to ensure that younger students get the help they need to understand their different aspirations and interests. “Occupational awareness is one of the factors affecting academic success and professional growth, and the importance of professional awareness is determined by including information and requirements for each profession, so this is also the case of counseling gifted students on career and decision-making process" Alsqour & Al-Shoubaki, (2020) argues this in relation to the importance of the careers in the society and how this should be highly considered for psychological and career development. I can provide career counseling services to students and help them make the appropriate decisions in career development, transitioning their education and workforce, and planning their educational pathways (Gati & Kulcsár, 2021). Super's theory in career counseling for students has various implications that are linked to the identification of the stages of career development and help students set their goals for mastery of every unique task. In addition, I can help students clarify their self-concepts due to the various tasks that they are engaged with and ensure the enhancement of knowledge of the information in occupations (Maree, 2022). It is vital to have direct work experiences where the students are enrolled in various working professions. I can also expose the students during the career guidance to a wide range of careers they have based on their abilities and interests because of the options they may have on occupations over time, and this should the consideration of the significance of vocational and the subjects that students study in school. Career guidance and development for students in schools is considered to be beneficial in various ways, and this includes helping them get suitable career identification so that they can learn how to match their personality traits, skills, and interests. I can also help students make
Person-environment fit theory can also be related to guidance and counseling, where I can help students assess their capabilities by considering their personal differences and the demands of the trends of the career environment. I can encourage the students to effectively explore the potential career paths following the experimental learning opportunities, get trained, and also identify and evaluate the various factors such as job satisfaction, work-life balance, and organizational culture when the students are considering checking from their career options (Healy et al., 2022). Guidance and counseling require assisting students in gathering important information concerning the different pathways in education trends and career options. Teaching them to gain skills in decision-making and making well-informed career options is important in career development. Conclusion Career development is a process that requires guidance and counseling, and it is accompanied by training sessions where the students are led to improve their motivation and achievement towards their career goals. In guiding and counseling the students, I can follow Hollard's theory, which includes assessing students' abilities, interests, and values, organizing activities that may help them explore different career field options, and ensuring they align with their personality types. Moreover, guidance and counseling sessions lead the students to understand how their personal traits are related to their career paths, and they may be motivated and remain focused to make informed decisions. It is important to also help students be engaged with the mentorship programs and develop self-efficacy through setting the career goals that need to be achieved and acquiring significant information on their skills and competencies. It is imperative when it comes to educating students on career development and also considering the responsibilities they have in the future.
