Career Research Project
1. Introduction
You will be required to research a career. A cover page, research paper, and a works cited page will be
required for this project. Several class visits to the Library with Mrs. Golub will be allotted for this
assignment.
2. Requirements
The cover page must include your name, class period, date and the career you have researched.
The research paper must be in the form of an essay which should be nine paragraphs. It must be typed,
double spaced, spell checked, and at least two pages in length with twelve point times new roman font.
All resources that you use need to be properly cited with a works cited page.
3. Essay Paragraphs
Essay paragraphs should follow the format below.
Paragraph 1: This is the introduction paragraph. Using the values survey, personality survey and the
career interest survey, write about your results. T ell how the surveys helped lead you to the career you are
researching (or if they agreed with the career you already wanted to research.)
Paragraph 2: This paragraph should be about the career you are researching and why it interests you.
Paragraphs 3-7 are from your research. Using the career you have chosen, research and write one
paragraph (at least 5-6 sentences) on each of the following:
Paragraph 3: What are the job responsibilities/nature of the work?
Paragraph 4: What are the working conditions?
Paragraph 5: What schooling/education/training/qualifications are needed?
Paragraph 6: What is the salary?
Paragraph 7: What are the current employment opportunities?
Paragraph 8: Find a college or vocational school that offers a degree or training in the career you
researched. Locate the website for the institution. Calculate the cost of attending the institution for a year.
Include room, board, tuition and any other related expenses.
Paragraph 9: This is the conclusion paragraph. After completing the research, does the career still interest
you? Why or why not? You may also include any additional facts and thoughts about the c areer you have
researched.
4. Research
This project will include research visits with your class to the Library. A minimum of four sources are
required for this project which will include at least two print sources (books, encyclopedias, etc.) and a
minimum of two electronic sources (online databases, legitimate websites, etc.) A works cited page must
be included using the “Citation Formats for Research Assignments” handout as a guide. Plagiarism will
result in failure of this project and possible failure of the quarter.
5. Grading Criteria
Cover Page 5 points
Research paper 85 points
Works cited page 10 points
Due Date____________ (5 points will be deducted each day the project is late)
