Case Study: Corporate Social Responsibility Reputation Introduction Microsoft Corporation focuses on sustainability as the core of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. In this regard, the company focuses on environmental, social, and economic issues. Hammond and Christensen (2016) believe that sustainable development should prove the potential to meets present needs without compromising the possibility of meeting the needs of future generations. Microsoft aspires to become a great company (Microsoft Corporation, 2021). In pursuit of this aspiration, the company acknowledges the importance of adopting sustainable development in meeting present needs. It, therefore, incorporates sustainable development principles in both daily and long-term activities. For Microsoft Corporation, the CSR integrates social, economic, and environmental concerns in all interactions and operations that involve the company and stakeholders. Problems Addressed By the Company The chief executive officer of Microsoft is well-known for advocating social and environmental responsibility. Furthermore, the emphasis of Microsoft its global computer business has been environmental sustainability, human rights, and transparency (Sehgal, et al., 2020). Besides, the company ensures that the corporate responsibility strategy conforms to the prevailing market conditions. CSR at Microsoft is driven by a citizenship mission, which the company describes as serving the needs of communities and fulfilling its responsibility to the public throughout the globe (Microsoft Corporation, 2021). Moreover, Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft is involved in charitable activities that the public associates with the company to a certain extent.
With the constant evolution of the business environment, Microsoft has successfully changed its perception of CSR by acknowledging the important role it plays. The company has the potential of leading the world as a role model in CSR. This calls for the management to be at the forefront of making sure that all the company’s practices comply with sustainable development objectives. It also requires Microsoft to continuously take the initiative of carrying out and implementing CSR strategies throughout all stages of developing its systems and by involving all stakeholders.
