Visual literacy is an understanding of what is not written, but what is presented using
sequence, emphasis, and unity. The webpages that I created are simple and go along with Bauhaus’ design in that simple is better, and that less is more. Now that the three elements chosen have been discussed, the next section will discuss why the media elements contained in the Final Project deliver the messageintended to communicate. Why the media elements contained in the Final Project deliver the messageintended to communicate. The media elements that are contained in the final project deliver the message that was intended because they are all very important aspects in visual communication. The design catches the eye and makes people interested. It is simple yet elegant. The photos used as well as the typography also help capture the eye and make it more presentable. The elements used together help create the visual communication and message that I was trying to have come across. Describe the intent of the message The intent of the message is to promote my product and to show people the different products that a small business has to offer over buying from a large corporation. The visuals that I have chosen support my message because they are an advertisement to the products that I offer. The logo helps show my small business. The typography helps with the advertisement by being a clear and easy to read font as well as a font that looks clean and draws the eyes into it. The use of the coloring that I will choose will also help draw the eye in and will make the advertisement look cleaner and more attractive.
Five concepts from the course material that support the choice of media elements. Also, the relationship of the concepts to the media elements that were chosen. Five concepts from the course material that support the choice of media elements would be visual literacy, visual marketing, advertising, branding, social media, and design. To start off, visual literacy would support the choice of media elements. Visual literacy defined by the textbook is that it “involves the competent creation and consumption of visual messages. These activities require not only the physical ability of sight but the cognitive abilities of attention, perception, critical thinking, evaluation, and synthesis with other sensory information and experiences”(Ryan, 2012). The amount of visuals we are exposed to in a day can be overwhelming sometimes and sometimes we don’t even pay attention to them. Visuals can come in forms of objects, events, actions, pictorial representations, nonverbal or digital symbols, written words, or numbers states Ryan. The relationship that this has to the elements chosen would be that they help tell the message by using the elements like the font that is chosen and the pictures. It makes it appealing to people and makes them want to buy the products offered. Next is visual marketing. By the visuals that were chosen to put on my web pages, they will help to market my products that I offer. According to Steve Jett, “the evolution of marketing communication is driven by (1) consumer media consumption habits, (2) growing demands and expectations of a consumer in the market to buy a commodity, and (3) overall communication technology. Candidly, all three of these are linked together. The growth of the digital space allowed a new consumer to take on greater value. Gen X and Gen Y buyers were raised with online consumption and became the early adopters for social channels such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. This younger consumer rejects traditional media channels, feeds off of the opinions of their friends, and openly challenges traditional thinking. As the population ages,
Conclusion In conclusion, visual literacy is something that tells a message without using only words. Pictures, fonts, videos, and design can tell a message all in their own. Elements that were used to get my message across were special fonts, photographs, and design. In using those elements I was also able to brand my company, advertise, design, and use visual literacy to get a message across. This message will help consumers to know my brand as well as products that I offer. References Covello, S. (2019, August 1).
