Q1 a) With the aid of neat detailed diagrams, describe the investment casting process, including the production of the pattern. (21 marks)

b) List 3 main advantages this process has over others. (12 marks)

Q2 a) With the aid of a sketch, show and name the 3 main angles in relation to a cutting tool. (9 marks) b) Describe and sketch the 3 types of chip formation. (9 marks)

c) Using the equation P ^2.^ . 60 r. Ft. N ( W )

Find the increase in power required to turn a 100mm diameter mild steel bar at 80rpm and 160rpm when the tangential cutting force is 350N in both cases. (15 marks)

Q3 a) A fit is given as 50mm dia. H7k6 using Table 1. What type of fit is this and show the dimensions of the hole and shaft on a neat sketch. (10 marks) b) Use Diagrams to illustrate the following: i. Transition Fit ii. Clearance Fit iii. Interference Fit (15 marks)
