I. The current status and the need to build the network of Gold Star

company.

1. Current state

- New construction.

- Less than 100 peoples, divided into 5 departments: General Manager,

administration, IT operations, Software Engineers, and HR.

2. Demand

- Each room have a private network.

- Have server to store information, and run mail, DNS, DHCP services.

- Access outside the internet, no high availability required.

LO3. Design efficient networked systems.

[P5] Design a networked system to meet a given specification.

I. Solution to build network system for Gold Star company.

a) Recommend selection of equipment and technology.

- List of devices:

Repeater 1

Server

HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen 10 4SFF Hot-Plug.  Power Supply: 1x290w.  CPU: (1) Intel Xeon E Processor Family up to 8 cores.  Memory: 16GB.  SSD: 1x 240GB SATA.  Disk Controller: HPE FIO Enable Smart Array SW RAID.  Networking: 2x 1GbE ports (integrated), plus 2x 1GbE ports (PCIe).  ILO Software: ILO Advanced 3yr 24x7.

Modem ^ LAN Ports:^ WAN x 1, LAN x 4 RJ-45 for

10/100/1000 Base T  Antenna: 2 x antenna for 2.4 GHz with 3.8dBi gain 3 x antenna for 5 GHz with 5.1dBi gain  Memory: 8 MB flash and 128 MB RAM  Operating Frequency: Simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz  Data Rate: 802.11n: up to 300Mbps.

Repeater

 Repeater EX2000 V2 extends the N standard WIFI waves, offering speeds of 300 Mbps at the 2.4 GHz band.  Compatible with IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless standard.  With 2 antennas in addition to 4DBI for powerful broadcasting capabilities.  Expand coverage easily with the WPS button.  RJ45 port transmits network signals to other devices  Access Point Mode (AP Mode) gives you more flexibility to expand wi-fi.  WPA/WPA2(TKIP/AES) advanced security does not worry about unauthorized intrusion into your wireless network.  Stable connection of about 10 users with a coverage density of 15 m.

b) Solution directions for the network system.

  • Divide 5 departments into 4 LANs, each room have a LAN network and 1

additional room for servers:

 General Manager + HR room.

 Administration room.

 IT Operations room.

 Software Engineers room.

 Server room.

  • Each room have a Switch that connect to a router.
  • Users can access Web Server and Mail Server.
  • Security: install firewall software for each PC.

c) The physical topology of the network.

1. Tool used

  • Assignment using the Cisco Packet Tracer tool. Packet Tracer is a network

emulator for learning using Cisco network devices (routers / switches). The

product provides a tool to study the fundamentals of the network and skills

for working with Cisco-systems.

Cisco Packet Tracer.

2. Physical topology

  • Divide 5 departments into 4 rooms and 1 additional Server Room, each room

with 1 switch.

  • PCs of General Manager and HR are connected to Room1’s Switch.
  • Administration’s PCs are connected to Room2’Switch.
  • IT Operation’s PCs are connected to Room3’Switch.
  • Software Engineer’s PCs are connected to Room4’Switch.
  • All of the 4 servers are connected to Server Room.
  • Server Room and Room1’s Switches are connected to Router1.
  • Room 2, 3, 4’s Switches are connected to Router 2.
  • Router1 connected to the Wi-fi Modem in order to access to the Internet.
  • Repeater is used to expand, amplify, and help to transmit wi-fi signals

farther and more stable.

  • Router 1 and 2 are connected to each other using the HWIC-2T - a Cisco 2-

Port Serial High-Speed WAN Interface Card, providing 2 serial ports.

Dropbox for business.

LO4. Implement and diagnose networked systems.

[P 6 ] Implement a networked system based on a prepared design.

[P7] Test and evaluate the design to meet the requirements and analyse

user feedback.

I. Configure the IP address.

- General Manager and HR department share the same Switch but have

different IP address from each other.

- General Manager department has IP address: 192.168.2.0 /

 General Manager’s PC has an IP address automatically by DHCP

Server: 192.168. 2. 2

- HR department has IP address: 192.168. 3 .0 / 24

 HR’s PC has an IP address automatically by DHCP Server:

- Administration department has IP address: 192.168. 4 .0 /

 Administration’s PC has an IP address automatically by DHCP

Server: 192.168. 4. 2

- Server Room has IP address: 192.168.1.0 /

 IP address of Web Server: 192.168.1.

 IP address of Mail Server: 192.168.1.

 IP address of DNS Server: 192.168.1.

 IP address of DHCP Server: 192.168.1.

- IT Operations department has IP address: 192.168. 5 .0 /

 IT Operation’s PC has an IP address automatically by DHCP Server:

- Software Engineers department has IP address: 192.168. 6 .0 /

 Software Engineer’s PC has an IP address automatically by DHCP

Server: 192.168. 6. 2

II. Router configuration.

1) Turn on ports and set IP address for router.

_- on Switch-

  • on Router1-_
  • Repeat and apply the Router configuration steps to the other router and both

router ports until achieved these results:

- Router 1-

- Router 2-

  • On both Router, repeat the following command but “192.168.0.0” is IP

address of each Router’s port:

 router ospf 100

 network 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 area 0

  • In enable mode, use “show ip route” command to see the result: III. DHCP Configuration.
  • Set static IP address for DHCP Server:
  • Automatic IP address for PC. Example, PC in General Manager room:

 If the PC and DHCP Server are not the same LAN, use this command

#interface

#ip helper-address

IV. Web Server configuration.

  • Set static IP address for Web Server.
  • Select Service and turn on HTTP & HTTPS.
  • Configure Email Service and add user.
  • Add a record in DNS Server.
  • Configure on PCs:
  • Send mail and reply between 2 PC.
