INTRODUCTION

Computer networks, which enable users to access data, hardware, and services from any location, are what are driving the advancement of computer systems. The environment of networking is getting more and more complicated and is always changing. To facilitate global communications, complex computer networking has linked the world's tiny networks together via the internet. It facilitates the use of several applications, including e-mail, audio, and video transmission, to provide access to digital information anytime, anywhere. JNR is a reputable freight railroad firm in Jordan that connects the country's major industrial cities such Irbid, Karak, Mafraq, and Zarqa, and Aqaba and the largest phosphate mine (Shidiya Mine). In the future, the network will also be connected to Saudi Arabian, Syrian, Turkish, and European railroads. To expand their workforce and operations, JNR has opened many offices. In addition to the headquarters in Amman, the senior management opted to create offices in Irbid, Karak, Mafraq, Zarqa, Shidiya, and Aqaba. JNR is working on a project to link those offices.

  • MAN is used in communication between the banks in a city
  • High speed than WAN: Data rates can easily reach 1000 Mbps because MAN uses optical fiber Fast file and database transfer speeds.

Constrain

  • Difficult to manage: It is difficult to manage if the size and number of local networks increases This is due to additional security and configuration issues.

What is physical topology

The physical arrangement of the network devise.

Star:

In the star topology, all computers are connected to a central wiring point, such as a hub or a switch. All data on the star network passes through the central point before continuing to its destination. One of the main advantages of the star topology is that even if one of the computers failed or a cable broke, the other computers wouldn't be affected because they each have their own cable connection. But this architecture has the drawback that all the computers connected to the central point would be affected if it failed

Ring:

This sort of network architecture involves connecting each computer to its neighbors in the shape of a tight loop such that every computer on the ring has precisely two neighbors. For communication reasons, each data packet is transmitted around the ring until it reaches its intended destination The benefit of ring topologies is that they are simple to set up and debug, but the drawback is that if just one of the computers fails or if there is a single cable break, the entire data flow would be affected.

Bus:

It’s a set up where each of the computers and network devices are connected to a single cable or backbone and this backbone is coaxial cable .the computers connect to this cable using special connector called BNC which are also known as t connectors. one of the advantages of the bus topology is that it is also fairly cheep and easy to implement however a disadvantage of the bus topology is that it requires that the cable is terminated at both ends using terminators in order for this set up to remain operational there must not be any open connections including the ends that attach to the computers including the ends that attach to the computers so if a computer is removed or if the terminators are loose or missing then the cable would be open and the data would bounce back and if this happen then data flow would be disrupted

Mesh:

On the mesh topology each computer on the network is connected to every other computer on the network so by having so many connection its handle failure very well the advantage of mesh topology is that it creates a high redundancy level because if one or more of the connection fail the computers would still be able to communicate with each other however because of the amount of cabling and network cards that have to be used mesh topology can be expensive so they mainly used on wide area network like the internet I choose extended star

The difference Star Ring

structure There is a single point (router, switch, etc.) that connects every device in the network. Each device is linked to two other devices on either side via a coaxial or RJ- connection. Failure point if the central node fails, the entire network is affected. The entire network is impacted by the failure of one device. Transmission of Data A central node receives data from all devices and Data moves sequentially from one device to the next
