Cyberbullying is the negative side of the internet, and it came about due to the different characters of people you encounter daily online. People often misuse information technology to harass and make others uncomfortable. Cyberbullying always comes in various forms, like posting negative comments about someone online, spreading rumors about someone to wreck their reputation. The effect is insecurities for the victim, which tend to be enhanced when they are exposed to an audience they are not aware of. Mitigation measures for cyberbullying involve sensitization and teaching of the dangers of the act. Most cases of suicide, according to (Barlett et al., 2016), indicate that they occurred due to cyberbullying. Children, in particular, should be educated on the dangers it poses to others when they are cyberbullied. In most online platforms, people often share their passwords and other sensitive data that are mined to be used later to trap them. Recent cases of ransomware where people were bullied into paying a ransom or the contents of their personal computers being leaked online led to more sensitization of privacy matters.
The psychological risk of failing to address cyberbullying it enabling the vice to continue. Similar to a bad drug problem, the cyberbullying puts teenagers, especially school-going ones, in great danger since they are mostly in their developmental phase and often fall victim to low self- esteem and overall pressure from their peers (Vohra & Donovan, 2016). The topic is an essential discussion in modern spheres since the online community exists to connect people well enough to encourage globalization.
