Impact of Learning Science Theories The first principle of learning science exemplified in the video is Student-centered differentiation through the use of academic choice. The teacher, Melissa Perferio, gave her students choices of how to retell the story of Goldilocks using art, writing, movement, and various creation activities. This principle had a positive impact on learning because it gave students the tools to access content information through their strengths and encouragement to use what works best for them (Teaching Channel, 2024). For instance, some students needed to act out the parts; other students needed to draw or build to grasp story elements. The teacher additionally aided children with speech problems and shyness by enabling varied participation approaches. As a result, learners became more interested, confident, and inspired during the class. The use of academic choice spurred creativity, sparks critical thinking, and promotes teamwork by refining retelling skills in comprehension and articulation of story elements. The principle of academic choice would be put into use in my future set-up of an elementary reading comprehension on a folktale. Once I read the story to them aloud and discussed the important events of the story, characters and setting, I would give students several activity options to show what they understood. Students might make a comic strip, act out a roleplay, use materials in class to make a model scene or write a diary entry in the voice of a character, for instance (Teaching Channel, 2024). One scenario would have students read a story about friendship and conflict resolution. One student might be interested in the artwork of the story, another might want to be involved in the action of the story and drama of the solution and partner up with that student.
