Dear Diary, I am literally so upset, I am in shock, I can’t believe what I’ve read, I can’t believe it. I haven’t been able to concentrate on anything at all. I can’t believe that I’m about to write this, but through the tears dripping down my face and my broken heart. Dear Diary, I can reveal to you the harrowing news that Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes from TLC is dead. She is dead. Like Princess Diana dead. Like Mother Teresa dead, like Anne Frank dead, like Joan of Arc dead. She has croaked it, she is a dead as a dodo, she is joining rappers Biggy Smalls and Tupac in the sky, she has given up the ghost, and she is outta here. She died in a car crash last night in Honduras, wherever that even is. I’m stunned. TLC are, like, the coolest band from my generation. I know they haven’t really had any singles out lately,but TLC will always and for ever be CrazySexyCool for God’s sake. My heart is going out to Chilli and T-Boz, it would be like if something happened to Rebecca and Lucy and they died. I would literally be SO heartbroken. Out of me, Rebecca and Lucy, Rebecca would be T-Boz, I would be Chilli and Lucy would be Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes, because in fairness, she has the biggest attitude out of all of us. TLC are like Destiny’s Child and the Spice Girls put together, only EVEN cooler. These are the girls that wore condoms on their clothes to promote safe sex; these are the girls that wrote ‘Waterfalls’, the song that teenagers all over the world have cried to! These are the girls who created girl power before the Spice Girls even knew what it was. Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes is the girl who lived up to her nickname by wearing a pair of glasses with the left lens covered with a condom AND she started wearing a black stripe under her left eye AND she even got her left eyebrow pierced, which is, like, beyond cool and dedicated. I know she once accidentally burnt down the house of her ex-boyfriend because she set his runners on fire in a bath, but that was a total accident and people make mistakes, like, ALL the time. It’s weird, because the last song she did with Mel C from the Spice Girls seems eerily like real life today after hearing the news, because things will literally ‘Never Be the Same Again’. I was telling Mum and Dad about being really upset over her death and they said they remembered the day that Elvis died, MY GOD they are literally ancient. Elvis must be dead like 100 years at this stage, and also, WHO CARES? They also remembered the day Freddie Mercury from Queen died, but I’m sorry, it’s not the same thing because Elvis died on a toilet from eating too many burgers and Freddie Mercury had the AIDS, so for Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes to die in a car crash is way, way more dramatic in my opinion. Ugh, they just don’t get it. They just don’t understand the influence she has had on my young teenage mind. They don’t understand what her music and the music of TLC has contributed to modern-day society. Why don’t adults understand it? Were they ever even young?! All I know is that it’s got me thinking about death AGAIN Dear Diary. What if I were to die in a car crash tomorrow like Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes? What regrets would I have? I’ll tell you what the main regret would be, and I think you’ll know what that is before I even write it. It’s the fear of never getting the ride. Pure and simple.
