Derivative Classification Training Requirements, Lecture notes of Differential and Integral Calculus

The training requirements for individuals who apply derivative classification markings to newly developed classified materials. The training, which must be conducted at least once every 2 years, covers the proper application of derivative classification principles, avoiding over-classification, classification levels, duration of classification, identification and markings, classification prohibitions and limitations, sanctions, classification challenges, security classification guides, and fundamental classification guidance review. The training also emphasizes the importance of information sharing.

Derivative Classification

May 2015

What Derivative Classification Is

“Derivative classification” means the incorporating, paraphrasing, restating, or

generating in new form information that is already classified, and marking the newly

developed material consistent with the classification markings that apply to the

source information.

“Derivative classification” includes the classification of information based on

classification guidance.

Derivative classifiers do not need to possess original classification authority.

Persons who apply derivative classification markings (create derivatively classified documents) shall receive training at least once every 2 years.

The training shall consist of (at a minimum):

  • The proper application of the derivative classification principles of E.O. 13526
