Discussion V Peer Review Healthcare Delivery System Hello Emily, you are correct that the healthcare delivery system is a multiplex system with many dynamic factors. I also worked as an adult ICU nurse and then went on to work in med-surg. The patient’s individual needs and preferences should take priority and embody their treatment plan, so the best possible outcomes are provided. In advocating for patients, there must be effective communication between the provider and the patient; this will play a significant role in the delivery of care and the recovery of the patient. Providing healthcare to patients that will show respect for the patient's needs and providing the patient with positive outcomes is essential. Although good communication and positive interaction with patients can provide an impactful relationship between the provider and the patient, studies have shown that there is still a multitude of components that hinder the relationship between the provider and the patient, creating barriers that have significant consequences on the care outcome of the patient (Kwame & Petrucka, 2021). Addressing social determinants of health (SDOH) is greatly affected by how healthcare systems use resources for payment. Payment models should be designed with the intention of promoting a diversified workforce, providing consideration to the population, and incorporating improvements in provisional training to improve health quality (Eschliman et al., 2023). In conclusion, as a future nurse practitioner, advocating for patients and advocating for policies that promote change to ensure all have adequate healthcare will be extremely challenging and rewarding.
