equivalent. The purpose of this activity is to show you how a certain portion/piece of something can be taken out from the whole or group it belongs. The first one, as an example, is done for you.

  1. a tier of cake -slice of cake
  2. a case of soda
  3. one section of students
  4. bunch of bananas
  5. 1 sack of rice B. Establish purpose for the lesson The activity you have just accomplished is similar to the process you will undergo in choosing a research topic and eventually in formulating your research title. You have to start from general view of the subject and proceed to its specific spectrum. Considering IRTLPA is necessary in crafting research title. Remember, a research study must be significant enough to make it worth your efforts as the researcher In qualitative research, it is not necessary to complete the data on what, where, who, and when in the title. C. Present examples/ instances of new lesson To craft a title, you will learn how to determine your research topic as we discuss the Guidelines in Choosing a Topic, Topics to be Avoided, Sources of Research Topics, Examples of Research Topics and their Sources, and How to Narrow Down a Research Topic. Ask students on their interests, personal standings, and limitation Give examples of narrowed topic from broad ones. Present a research title to analyze. D. Discuss new concepts and practice new skills # Guidelines in Choosing a Topic
  6. Interest
  7. Relevance
  8. Timeliness
  9. Limitation
  10. Personal Standing
  11. Availability Sources of Research Topics
    1. Mass media communication-
    2. Books, internet, journals, government publications
    3. Professional periodicals
    4. General periodicals
    5. Previous readings
    6. Work experience How to Narrow Down a Topic
      1. You can narrow down the topic by exploring and extending the explanation of a theory.
      2. Talk over ideas with people who know research.
      3. Focus on specific group. Ex: Students, Mothers, Teachers
      4. Define the aim or desired outcome of the study. a. Is the study exploratory, explanatory, or descriptive? b. Is the study applied or basic? Research title is the most important element of your research as it clearly expresses the problem to be explored. A research title capsulizes the main thought or idea of the whole research paper. It also reflects the variables under study. It is expressed in few words possible and just enough to describe the contents and the purpose of your research. It needs to be informative. E. Discuss new concepts and practice new skills # Topics to be Avoided
  12. Controversial topics
  13. Highly technical subjects
  14. Hard-to-investigate subjects
  15. Too broad subjects Before deciding on your topic, ask:
  16. What areas are not yet explored that I want to investigate? 2. Is my research useful to me, to my school, to my family and to my

variables under study. L. Establish purpose for the lesson The questions that you ask in your research will determine the data that you want to have, answer, and specify in Chapter 4. Hence, it is a crucial stage to attain your research objective. M. Present examples/ instances of new lesson Please check for the following examples for reference: Unclear: How should social networking sites address the harm they cause? Clear: What action should social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook take to protect users’ personal information and privacy? The unclear version of this question doesn’t specify which social networking sites Please see these examples on how to improve your thesis: Original thesis: There are serious objections to today's horror movies. Revised theses: Because modern cinematic techniques have allowed filmmakers to get more graphic, horror flicks have desensitized young American viewers to violence. The pornographic violence in "bloodbath" slasher movies degrades both men and women. Today's slasher movies fail to deliver the emotional catharsis that 1930s horror films did N. Discuss new concepts and practice new skills # Research questions help writers focus their research by providing a path through the research and writing process. You should ask a question about an issue that you are genuinely curious and/or passionate about. The question you ask should be developed for the discipline you are studying. A question directed towards Literature, for instance, is different from an appropriate one in Mathematics to Biology. Writing a good research question means you have something you want to study. Let's say you're interested in the effects of television. We will examine the steps and then look at how you could write a research question. 15 CO_Q1_SHS Practical Research 1_Module 3 ✔Specify your specific concern or issue ✔Decide what you want to know about the specific concern or issue ✔Turn what you want to know and the specific concern into a question Every paper you write should have a main point, a main idea, or central message. The argument(s) you make in your paper should reflect this main idea. The sentence that captures your position on this main idea is what we call a thesis statement. A thesis statement focuses your ideas into one or two sentences. It should present the topic of your paper and also make a comment about your position in relation to the topic. Your thesis statement Tips in Writing Clear Thesis: Your thesis statement is no exception to your writing: it needs to be as clear as possible. By being as clear as possible in your thesis statement, you will make sure that your reader understands exactly what you mean.

  4. Additional Materials from Learning Resources (LR) Portal B. Other Learning Resources IV. PROCEDURES A. Review previous lesson or presenting a new lesson A research proposal describes what you will investigate, why it’s important, and how you will conduct your research. Recall previous discussion. Class Work: Develop Title Page and Introduction using the data collected from previous week. Class Work: Collect possible entries for Literature Review. B. Establish purpose for the lesson A research proposal serves as a blueprint and guide for your research plan, helping you get organized and feel confident in the path forward you choose to take. Academics often have to write research proposals to get funding for their projects. As a student, you might have to write a research proposal as part of a grad school application, or prior to starting your thesis or dissertation. In addition to helping you figure out what your research can look like, a

proposal can also serve to demonstrate why your project is worth pursuing to a funder, educational institution, or supervisor. C. Present examples/ instances of new lesson *present example of research proposal D. Discuss new concepts and practice new skills # Research proposal aims: Relevance Show your reader why your project is interesting, original, and important. Context Demonstrate your comfort and familiarity with your field. Show that you understand the current state of research on your topic. Approach Make a case for your methodology. Demonstrate that you have carefully thought about the data, tools, and procedures necessary to conduct your research. Achievability Confirm that your project is feasible within the timeline of your program or funding deadline. Title page Like your dissertation or thesis, the proposal will usually have a title page that includes: The proposed title of your project Your name Your supervisor’s name Your institution and department Introduction The first part of your proposal is the initial pitch for your project. Make sure it succinctly explains what you want to do and why. Your introduction should: Introduce your topic Give necessary background and context Outline your problem statement and research questions E. Discuss new concepts and practice new skills # Literature review As you get started, it’s important to demonstrate that you’re familiar with the most important research on your topic. A strong literature review shows your reader that your project has a solid foundation in existing knowledge or theory. Research design and methods Following the literature review, restate your main objectives. This brings the focus back to your own project. F. Develop mastery (Leads to formative assessment) G. Find practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living H. Make generalizations and abstractions about the lesson
