DNA POLYMERASES IN EUKARYOTES
These are special enzymes that build new DNA strands during cell
division.
In eukaryotes, different types of DNA polymerases together to copy the
DNA , fix mistakes and keep the cell healthy.
There are mainly 5 types of DNA polymerases in eukaryotes :
1. Poly alpha: this enzyme start the replication .
It act as RNA primer maker.
2. Poly delta: this enzyme is main builder of lagging strand. It form
short fragments called Okazaki Fragments.
3. Poly epsilon: this enzyme is mainly builder of leading strand.
4. Poly gamma: this enzyme copies mitochondrial DNA.
It lives inside mitochondria .
5. Poly beta: it is primary fixer.
It is responsible for DNA repair when DNA get slightly damaged
by chemicals environment.
