Elkonin Sound Boxes are used as a
visual aid to help children isolate
and blend the sounds they hear in
spoken words.
Part 1 - Phoneme Isolation
The first page provides Elkonin boxes with three spaces.
Use this template with magnets or post-it notes to
identify the location of the phoneme being isolated.
Part 2 - Blending
The last page provides Elkonin boxes with two spaces.
Use this template with magnets or post-it notes to
provide a visual anchor for two words, two syllables, or
two sounds in a spoken word. The page with three boxes
can also be used to segment a word into three sounds.
