Part A (12 marks) Explain how variable length codes can be used to reduce the number of bits required to store text. Illustrate you answer with an alphabet of 8 symbols and table of variable length codes.

Part A (12 marks) Explain how the distribution of different types of cells in the human eye results in difficulty in perceiving colour at the periphery of the visual field.

Q.4 (25 marks) Part A (10 marks) Macromedia Director has six special channels in addition to those used for image sprites. Two of

these channels are for sound. What are the other four and what are they used for?

Part B (15 marks)

A Macromedia Director movie has a black button on stage in channel 5. Over the button is a hot spot

in channel 6. When the mouse rolls over the hotspot the button changes from black to white. When

the mouse rolls off, it goes back to black. The white button is in cast member number 4 and the

black button is in cast member number 5. When the hotspot is clicked the movie jumps to frame

“action.”

A frame script in frame 10 controls the rollover.

Write the Lingo code for the frame script.
