Chapter :- Triumph of Surgery

Tricki's illness:- James herriot was shocked to see tricki appearance. When he spotted him
with his owner Mrs.Pumphrey.

Tricki was so fat he looked like a blooted sausage and had bloodshot eyes
▪
Mrs Pumphrey explained that she belived tricki was suffering from Malnutrition
▪
To improve his conditions, she fed him malt, codliver oil and a bowl of horlicks at night to make hik
sleep.

Herriot Warning to Mrs. Pumphery:-

James Herriot Gaves Mrs.Pumphrey stern regarding tricki illness.
▪
He advised him to stop giving tricki extra snaks between meals.
▪
He also wanted her to ensure daily exercises along with a strict diet to improve his health.
▪
Mrs. Pumphrey admitted that it would be difficult for her but agreed to give it a try and walked off with
tricki

Tricki in James clinic:-

A few days later, Mrs. Pumphrey called Dr.Herriot as tricki refused to eat and was having bouts of
vomiting.
▪
James had already planned to take tricki his clinic for his proper treatment.
▪
Hee suggested hospitalising tricky for a fortnight of observation before starting the necessary
treatment.
▪
Mrs.pumphery was so shocked by the suggestion that she almost fainted but James remaid firm.

He pick the tricky and carried him to his car.
▪
The entire household was in the approve as the staff rust together blankets bowls clothes and toys
for tricky.
▪
Mrs.pumphrey and the caretaker had Tears in their eyes unable to beer the site of tricky leaving.

Tricki stay and recovery at hospital:-
▪ Initially tricky lay motion less on the bed made by vet.He seen uninterested in anything and even the
household dogs ignored him.

Day1-2

He was put on a water diet for almost 2 days to help with his condition.
▪
There was no signification improvement in his activity during this time.

Day3

Tricky started responding and showing some improvement
▪
He whimpered and join the hond in the garden
▪
Later ,in that day he ran with enthusiasm when food was ready .
▪
He also gloves the extra food given to him.

Following days His recovery speed up and he became more active he started running all day and
enjoyed playing getting bored over and squashed.

Mrs pumphery convern and Generosity:-

Mrs. Pumphrey called more than 12 times a day to
enquire about Tricky
▪
Mr Harriet avoided question tricky coats ,bats etc but assured her that tricky was recovering fast
▪
The word convalescing had a strongly pact on MrPumphery
▪
She started sending two doesn't extremely for tricky instead of giving them to tricky Mr and his
partners ate the eggs for break.
▪
To improve tricki blood quality she sent bottles of wine which Mr Harriet enjoyed before and during
lunch
