College of Business and Accountancy Philippine Association of Students in Office Administration Biglang Awa St. Cor. 11th^ Ave. Catleya, Caloocan, 1400 Metro Manila, Philippines In the Philippines, there are two main types of rats that can cause concerns on our citizens. These are the Brown Rat (Common Rat), and the Black Rat (Sewer Rat). They are commonly found in both private homes and business properties (Rentokil, 2025). The Rattus rattus commonly known as Black Rat , are found in coastal towns and in many urban environments across the Philippines. These rats are incredibly agile and very good climbers. They eat fruits that are moisty, they will eat around 15 grams of a day and 15 millimeters for drinking. Black rats have pointed nose, large ears and a slender body. On the other hand, the Rattus norvegicus commonly known as Brown Rat , lives in a ground and burrowing but they know how to climb. Though they are omnivorous, their preferred food is cereal. They will eat around 30 grams of food and drink 60 millimeters of water or liquids. Knowing each kind of rat is important for keeping them under control, among the numerous species these two are the main types are concerning. Black Rats are known to damage crops, food storage, and electrical wiring. While Brown Rats are major carriers of diseases that can be transmitted to humans, they pose a significant threat to crops and properties, causing extensive damage and economic losses. (Environment Pest Control, 2024).

Recognizing types of rats whether its Black or Brown and taking a proactive measure to safeguard health and properties caused by the rat infestation can help prevent any damages in the future.
