Faith in someone or something motivates our desire to work with them. The way behaviour can
shape reality is through their influence on behaviour. Beliefs not only influence our own
behaviors but also peoples who form close relationships with us. In Gus Van Sant’s Good Will
Hunting, Will’s intelligence opens him up with many opportunities in life but he was afraid to
take chances because of negative life experiences. Will was smarter than everyone else in the
college but he needed the right guidance from Sean on how to live life in a better way.
Have you ever felt so lonely that you feel like doing nothing? Have you ever experienced
loneliness so much and you feel that you have no idea where life is taking you? Have you ever
felt worthless and felt that your life had no purpose? In my personal life, I have been through a
very tough phase in my life when I had to choose between my work and school. During the time
when I used to attend Mount Royal Junior High, I never even used to think about working at
restaurants in Canada. In Pakistan, people who worked at restaurants and did not have decent
jobs were considered very low class people. I used to think that too and avoided people who
worked at the restaurants. I still remember the day when once I and my friends in Junior High
were talking about their working hours and schedule and I interrupted them saying that
‘‘I would never even work in cheap restaurants and do low class jobs.’’
My friends looked at me in amazement.
‘‘Are you serious Alizay? Have you never done a job in Canada?’’
‘‘Nope, I have never had a job in Canada and will only work once I have a decent degree.’’
‘‘Ok wow, that is something new for us Alizay!’’
My friends influenced me as they told me that I should try having a job in Canada and then make
a judgement before actually experiencing it. I did not want to try the job as I was lazy and I

already had school but then suddenly something struck in my mind and I was just thinking about getting a job. I applied to Tim Hortons and got in as a crewmember. My mother was strongly against my decision of getting a job anywhere. She would say things like: ‘‘I only want you to study and not waste your time just as your other friends do.’’ ‘‘I want you to become a cardiac surgeon.’’ I continued to support my decision of having a job and studying at school.
