What are the benefits of taking a gap year?
Most people, by the time they finish highschool , have been “classified” into certain groups.
For example, a person may be known in their community to love basketball and to be the
one who is going to be a D1 athlete in college, but that person as they grew up realized that
they in fact, didn't really wanted to do that, but they were so classified that people in their
community, that npone, not even themself, thought that they had another passion. A gap
year is the solution for that, taking some time to get to know yourself better and find those
dormant interests.
Leaving the routine they have had since they were children will also make you develop new
and useful life skills. When people see themselves in a situation they have never been
before or they have a problem they don’t know the solution to, it is when they acquire new
knowledge and skills. A gap year is the perfect opportunity for people to learn from every
new experience they are a part of. It is practically forcing the problems to come so you can
learn from them.
When you take a gap year you can basically use it either for academic related matters or
community. Stuff related to volunteering and community service could be about your local
community, another nearby village who doesn’t receive any help, or even another country
that needs help from people, not only of its citizens, but also from people around the world
as there is so much to be done. In the process of working alongside other persons, you are
probably going to develop your own skills while helping others, in other words, you’ll be
making an impact, but you’re going to gain just as much, or more, from the experience as
the local community.
Another benefit of taking a gap year is that it gives the young adults the opportunity to have
fun and live life to its fullest. As some people do not have the best of the experiences when
they are in high school, taking a year to meet new people, have fun and party will give them
the chance to have new and fun experiences. Thanks to that year they will probably be more
focused on their studies when they come back as they will have already had too much
freetime.
In conclusion, there are a lot of benefits to leaving your comfort zone and taking a gap year
to try to both, party and have fun but at the same time help a community who is in need of
help.
