ETHICS

Module 1

Introduction

 (^) In our daily life, we understand the concept of “good” and “evil”, “right” and “wrong”.  (^) Since our childhood, we are trained by our parents on how to act according to what is right though sometimes we did something wrong. Choosing what is right or wrong is what we call “Ethics”.

Learning Objectives

 (^) After studying this module, you should be able to:  (^) Understanding the duty of a person in a society.  (^) Maintaining the virtue inside.  (^) Enabling the ability to have a good decision to avoid what is not right thing to do.

Topics and Key Concepts

 (^) MORALITY  (^) When we decide on what you are going to do, there are certain choices that we prefer to and in those choices, it may be bad or good result.  (^) In weighing things when it comes to decision, you consider good result rather than bad result. It defines your Morality.  (^) It is easy for you to understand morality because it is already inside you.

Ethics

Why do we do what we do?

 (^) What are the underlying reasons that motivate our actions?  (^) What drives us?

But the problem is…

 (^) How do we know that we are not hurting anyone?  (^) How sure are we that what makes us happy will not cause misery to others?  (^) Are we necessarily doing good when we are pursuing our own happiness?

Ethics is…

 The study of the choices people regarding right and wrong. 

Should I call it sick at school or work

(even if I’m not)?

Should I put quotes around borrowed

phrasing or pretend words are our

own?

Should I post hurtful things about

someone online?

Objections against moral relativism  Even the wisest among us are capable of error and self-deception…  If morality is merely a matter of preference, then there is no way to distinguish.

Why do we need ethics if we already have…  (^) Laws
