The author effectively presents and narrows down the two fundamental sides of the argument, which are libraries and digital technology, allowing us to perceive both their positive and negative aspects. Although, it's a terrific outline. The author failed to acknowledge that there are a variety of individuals who have distinct approach in terms of reading and learning. Hence, why these viewpoints and preferences began to surface. Others prefer digital books because they are more convenient, accessible, and occupies less space, whilst others favor libraries because they are considered the home and a powerhouse of silent knowledge in the form of classic books. The public library is quite favored in the essay as the statements leans more towards in positive aspect. Little do they know that library, notably their printed books, are just like digital books, both are quite harmful to the environment, contributing to pollution. As stated by the AIIM organization, the process of manufacturing paper releases nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and carbon dioxide into the air, resulting in acid rain and greenhouse gases. Even printed books can damage your eyes, causing eye strain or astigmatism. Based on the report of Student Health Service, “Poor quality printed materials will cause eye strain. Words should be clearly printed; both the font size and the spacing should be appropriate.” With those additional considerations in mind, it would be pointless to pinpoint or downgrade one another. Instead of demolishing public libraries, they could have constructed a new institution solely for the purpose they intend, which is to have more digital technology, as this allows each individual to access more resources and interact with people who are in different comfort zones. It is also not agreeable to only prioritize digital books and disregard the significance of public libraries. However, this does not imply that digital books have no place in our community. Think of the relationship between public libraries and digital books as a gender inequality. The imbalance will lead to poor development and disproportionate. There are various methods to connect, but libraries are more focused on short-term distance than digital books, which are more focused on long-term distance. In other words, both digital and non-digital books have various railways that can or cannot be tampered with.
